Has anyone ever completed an Armor Set? They seem to be only useful for the gold...
The only complete Armor Set I've ever used from back in the Reckoning days and now playing the Re-Reckoning version are the rewards, the Shepard Armor and all those other ones.

It feels like such as waste that they designed all these cool armor sets with nice little lore flavor text but you hardly ever use them ever. I mean most of these armor sets have underwhelming stats as individual pieces of armor, and only have stronger effects when you put them together. Yet during my total 120 hours of play from both the original and remaster, I've never ever completed a set so I'm left with these weak pieces of incomplete armor.

Should have added a feature that increases the chances of finding other pieces of a set when you wear them, or make it part of the Detect Hidden skill which would be most fitting. Or better yet, make it a quest that triggers once you randomly find a piece of the armor set, so you still get the high of randomly finding a highly valuable item and you actually get to use and complete it.

As it is, the Armor Sets are only there for me to sell and get lots of gold. Best armors are still the ones you craft.

I completed two sets in the original game quite early, but not in the remaster (55h to 60h play time) yet.
Also, the new "character class biased loot mechanic" seems to not work for me. Most of my set pieces are for other builds.

Yes crafting is still op. Thought they will fix it but nope :( even most stats just not work it makes no sense to wait for a 4 set boni with +20 on all elements than just take normal gear with +20 on each piece.

Your better off making your own, it always ends up being better than any you find.

For me set pieces drop way more then at the vanilla game, but mostly one piece of a full set never drop.
And i can confirm the loot problem with set pieces from other builds.
Most other items are for your build (If you skill only might, the most items are for might).
But set pieces drop also often from finesse or magic builds. So they seem to be not included at the "character class biased loot mechanic".

Yes, crafting is the better way. But crafting is again a game breaker, because you get way to mighty with it.

But without crafting and the changes of the difficulty scaling (on very hard) the game is really fun. But with crafting you became again godlike and this make the game again boring at my opinion.

I bet the percentage of people who have actually completed more than 3 full sets of random armor is less than some of the rarest achievements in this game :P In my time playing both versions of the game I have never completed a set of armor. It's pretty ridiculous tbh.

The problem is how everything is RNG. An example: I went into a dungeon. I didn't open a single chest until the end. I left the dungeon and saved (loot is still locked upon entering a dungeon and it never changes unless you exit and re-enter.) 1st run: Nothing but greys, money and shards. 2nd run: All blues and some greens. These are two extremes but illustrates why 100% RNG based loot in a game this size is a bad idea.

The game is based on MMO tropes but they forgot one of the better parts of MMO's: how you get loot. What they should have done is made certain sets of armor obtainable as quest rewards. At the end of a quest you get to choose between Might/Finesse/Sorcery piece of gear. They could also make the loot in some dungeons fixed so you always get at least 2 parts of a gear set. Making everything RNG was a bad idea.

Since we have a working save editor, every time I get 5/5 parts of set gear, whether they are from the same set or not, I'm going to swap them out with a full set of gear for my finesse build. Once I do that it's back to 0/5 and the collection starts again. I'll start with the weakest set and work my way up. It's a bit cheaty but at least I will actually get some gear sets instead of looking like a misfit with mismatched gear most of the game.

I may of collected a full set or two, but it's hard to tell while looking at my stash. The stash inventory sorting is pretty terrible... I went with a pretty balanced build between might/finesse/magic, so the set pieces I've collected have been well spread out between the 3.

One thing I did notice, was after completing the Naros DLC, I started seeing purple/gold drops from Naros dropping in the base game areas, but no white/green/blue primal weapons.

What's sad is that a lot of the Armor Sets have cool distinctive looks to them even with some lore text added to them. They really should have incorporated them into quests and buffed their stats if they wanted an alternative to the OP crafting. So you can roleplay as a non-blacksmith character and still be able to get awesome armor sets by completing these quests.

Also, wait, what? There's a save editor? I thought it didn't work for Re-Reckoning? A new one you mean?

Not just the stash inventory sorting. The inventory menus in general are a pain in the ass to navigate through.

Yeah, which is why on my current Very Hard playthrough, I'm doing no blacksmithing, except the skills you get from trainers and skillbooks, just enough to that repairs don't require too many kits. But even then, you can still craft strong items, lol.

Only relying on Sagecrafting and Alchemy has made the game a bit more balanced for me.

Yea, it's a real shame how most players will never see some of those sets because they have bad luck with RNG.

Nice! That's gonna be really helpful. Thanks for letting me know!

Yes! Awesome, thank you! I've been waiting for this to be updated for the remaster because I ran into the "can't sell house of ballads set" bug that happens if you happen to find two sets of the armor during that faction's final quest. Finally, I can remove those four items from my inventory. My OCD shall be satisfied at last.

The rarity of items sets from dropped loot would be fine in an MMO -- where you can trade with other players to complete sets -- but in a single-player game it is very frustrating. You end-up holding onto pieces hoping that, someday, you can find another. I guess this what the Stash is for because Inventory slots are so precious. Now if Stash was shareable across all of your characters/games it would be even better.

as far as i can tell THQ Nordic didnt fix a damn thing in this game, upressed some textures and called it a day. Which is extremely disappointing to say the least. And like others i never completed a single set not in the original and not in this one.
TheRandomGuy Sep 17, 2020 @ 1:44am
On my Sorcery Playthrough, I used the armor set from the Arcane Guild (I forgot the name) which while outdated later in the game (got it around level 20, after end of main quest), it still holds up fairly well and the +2 bonus to ALL sorcery skills, in combination with the twist of fate that gives +1 bonus to all Sorc Skills, makes basically every spell I do supercharged damage-wise, and provides an all-around buff to everything in my build pretty much.

I COULD replace it with the armor set from the Island DLC, which has better armor, but I really like the look of the Arcane Guild Armor better. Tried crafting better armor but downright hated the generic look of it.
