* Naming it DIRT5 is much more attractive than calling it DiRT Showdown 2. A powerful name is much easier to advertise itself. If they had released DiRT Showdown 2, the old audience might have imagined it to be another bad release like DiRT Showdown. People tend to judge before checking something out.
* The old team might have wanted to do something else instead of doing the same job for many years.
* The old team might not be the same team anymore after years, and they might have had team members who wanted to be innovative and adapt to the new game engine software.
* The gameplay needed to be fresh and not repeat old gameplay. The marketing direction needed to focus more on new gamers so that the company could grow. Sadly, the new gameplay couldn't be mixed with the old gameplay due to budget issues. I remember they did some surveys before deciding on the amount of content to develop, based on how much customers were willing to pay.
Thanks for reading my blind guess. I would suggest looking for an accurate answer from their social media history and feeds, or contacting them for a real answer.
Game's fine. Maybe a bit too arcade, but still fun. I look at it as a spiritual successor to the PS3 Motorstorm games and the classic SEGA rally game. Beautiful graphics (seriously, only Forza looks better on PC), great vehicle sounds, varied and well detailed environments, changing weather and time of day, challenging AI difficulty.
Dirt Rally was the serious title but the Dirt titles where great for simcade. I don't like dirt rally but I love playing Dirt 3 and Dirt 4 which afaik are the only simcade rally titles in the market.
There was already a Dirt arcadey game, it was called Dirt Showdown. I don't know why they couldn't just name this game after it. Hell, dirt showdown had gymkhana too!
Fair enough, I do see the argument. To me personally, I grew up on the old CMR games and I never quite got the same feeling from the first 3 Dirt games. So personally I don't mind the detour 5 made, but I can see why people are upset.
But it is a good game, after the patches. It may not be your or veteran Dirt players' cup of tea, but like I said, this to me feels like a modern interpretation to the classic arcade offroaders like SEGA , Test Drive Offroad series etc.
I haven't seen a sweaty sim kid in this thread
Are you referring to the guy calling this game "too arcade"? Because it is. Need for Speed is arcade but I've never seen someone call it "too arcade", it's challenging enough and it's fun.
