Crossplay PC to Xbox

I have the game on Steam and my friend is on Xbox, why cant we join each other.
Clearly states crossplay across platforms so what are we doing wrong?

I think thats cos the Windows store version doesnt even work with Steam for multiplayer, so would seem obvious the crossplay is only on the MS store versions

Thanks for the reply Highway, so why don't they say that then. Instead of lying about it being crossplay. It is quite clearly crossplay with limitations.

It not fair for Steam User ... I want Crossplay with console in public or private lobby

Crossplay feels like it's using old tech like when I was playing the game on XCloud I noticed some player names were "DiRT 5 Player 1-8" and I am assuming it's the players from different platforms and they don't have a platform like EA with Origin to add Crossplay players to your friends list for a private match so hope that was a good way to explain it.

I have tried the windows 10 version on xbox app for PC and there were way more players to find online due to crossplatform with xbox1-xbox series x/s , steam version is empty , devs must fix this and unite steam and xbox net players , also where are custom lobbies? We are 9 months after release date and they have not been added yet , at least the mediocre and half-cooked Grid 19 had got sooner the custom lobbies that were missing on reelase..

Well, I suppose I can stop trying to get port forwarding to work... sounds like it isn't working for anyone on Steam.

I emailed support and they sent me a guide to making sure port forwarding was enabled for the normal Steam ports as well as UDP and TCP on port 3074. Gave me a few hours of unjustified hope.
