Resolution doesn't really effect CPU utilization. So the temps should be about the same at 1080p and 4k with a locked frame rate. The only real difference will be your GPU pumping more hot air into your case at higher resolutions.
What cooling do you have? If your hitting 90c then it's either inadequate, very dirty or improperly mounted. If it's not dirty and you think it's mounted properly, then i would either get a better cooler or undervolt the cpu.
Though when I capped the frames to 60 it dropped it to 80 - 83c which is better but still not acceptable. I'm not sure what it is about this game and my CPU.
I use the CPU cooler Dark Rock Pro 4 w/ 2 fans. 2 Front fans 2200RPM / 1 Back Fan. 2200RPM
The CPU I have always runs hot but I never seen it go to 90c before till I touched this game. Idle is a normal 45c and normal gaming hits a good 78-81c with it going above 80c extremely rare and normally drops back down to 80 and below if it touch's 81c.
Perfect 1440p60 performance, all the way through. No stuttering, no drops, no lag. Shadowing is a bit delayed in popping in during some cutscenes, but it corrects itself relatively fast.
Using the stock CPU cooler. Temp was around 64C for me for the CPU.
It's not the cooler * Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 which is over kill for this CPU* this is the only game that ever gave me that issue. I already fixed the issue a while back anyway's.
I have tried looking for a solution on the internet but I have not found anything for the moment...
Lower your clock speed in bios to normal without a boost.
Very easy solution for Mafia: Definitive Edition (at least on Windows 11 Pro) -> follow the guide here https://steamcommunity.com/app/1030840/discussions/0/3482997257338985357/ - changing max CPU performance from 100% to 99% resulted in like 30 degress difference for me - I'm getting 60 degrees when checking the map now and like 50 degrees during actual gameplay, zero hit to performance for this game anyway.
