Coats stuck to legs workaround
So I've tested a ton of graphics settings and found a "solution". In my game, the cloth PhysX works in all the DLC (Joe and Jimmy) and on Vito's DLC outfits and leather jacket.

I tried every graphics setting and I finally got cloth PhysX to work on all of Vito's outfits.

The only way it worked was to set global settings to "low". Then a message pops up saying "You have to restart the game before using the new setting of APEX PhysX".

It seems like switching to or from "low" global settings (you can't change anything individually or it will switch to "custom") is the only way to toggle APEX PhysX.

I think they could solve this entire thing by adding an individual toggle for APEX. It seems like they set the toggle backwards, turning it on when low is selected instead of turning it off.

Please let me know if this works for anyone else.

You can set it to low, which turns off all PhysX (glass shards that stay, concrete debri, etc.) and will then default to standard cloth movement (swaying slightly like on Xbox 360, but not true PhysX cloth like on pc classic).

Or you can have it on any other global setting and it will enable all PhysX (glass, concrete, etc.) but break cloth movement completely (won't even use the non-PhysX cloth movement that was on Xbox 360).

I believe the reason it breaks cloth movement is because it is supposed to enable cloth PhysX movement but can't, so it defaults to no movement at all.

There is nothing that can be done until they fix cloth PhysX or else disable it completely so we can still have standard moving cloth and environmental PhysX.

Correct and I found a fix to get the best of both worlds.

Lame if this is true, I mean why woudnt they add an option to activate it in the settings?

Btw, is there any way to increase the draw distance?

I can confirm that this make the vito's leather jacket have physx
but you end up with no particle and debris effect AT ALL as a "tradeoff"
Man, they really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up with this port

What do you mean "solution found"? That doesn't fix anything.
Vito's leather jacket physX was already working to some degree before. Nothing change.
When PhysX is working properly, all the clothing moves a lot more realistic and not just Vito's, but NPC's as well. Watch the benchmark cinematic.. when the women is running, their skirts should have PhysX.

I think some of you people forgot how PhysX on should look like. Use this video as reference.. only when you get to see that on your Benchmark, you can say you found a solution.
Watch how the coat of all gangsters have physics.. look the women running and their skirts have physics.. That's all missing on DE even though people keep saying they found a way to fix

Yeah, the title should maybe be changed. I meant more of "I potentially found the setting that is causing coats to lose PhysX and stick to legs/body." I have the classic version. I realize even with this "fix" it isn't anywhere close to the full PhysX we had before.

I'm just hoping we can at least get a fix to have clothes work properly on Vito.

I wasn't looking to have a fight about semantics. I'm just looking to get to the bottom of the issue like everyone else.
If you really want to see what this game could have looked like if they didn't bungle the "definitive edition" check out 2 mods on nexusmods for "classic" Mafia 2 called:

-"Mafia II Remastered" and "Old Time Reality Mod" These do a much better job at tightening up graphics with lighting, shaders, and 4k textures as well as a few more addons like 20 more cars, 70 more songs, better damage models and more.

Again, modders doing a better job for free than what a multi-million dollar company does.

You get the benefits of added content and better graphics without the loss of PhysX.

I wish there was a way to just take the new assets from the definitive edition (hair, face models, poster textures, etc.) and add them to the classic version.

I'm hoping for an official patch. PhysX is not working as it should, but is not totally off either... some physX particles is actually showing up. Perhaps an update would fix.
I'm also wondering if is something to be fixed on Nvidia's side. This isn't a big release but they normally put day 1 driver updates for new releases. I'm wondering if Nvidia driver update could be the missing piece. In any case.. I'm hopeful that the full physX effect will be restored soom.

From what I have seen there really isn't any exe update or anything hard coded to the game itself other than the stupid windows 8/10 requirement with the xinput1_4.dll (which is pointless)... The Definitive edition is just textures and a few ini style tweaks since models haven't been updated as far as I can tell. That would make it easier to port the textures to the old game then try to get the old game functionality ported to the definitive edition... Event he draw distances are the same.

The title of the thread is now even more fake than before. There is no way to fix the PhysX clothing simulation at all.

That's why it's in quotes. To notate it isn't really a fix as much as a stop-gap. I'm pretty sure there's nothing I can do to make you happy, bud. I'm just trying to help others that might have the same issue as me.

It's better now.
What I mean is, your work around is to restore the default cloth physics that always existed in the game even on the Xbox360 version.

PhysX is another thing that is not working in clothing at all at this point, but it's being confused by some people the moment they see Vito's cloth moving a little.

That's fair. You actually did bring that to my attention. Even the cloths that move don't look anywhere near as good as the clothes in classic.

At this point I'm just hoping they fix it so the clothes move at all. I'd love to have full PhysX back but I just want it to not look like a damn PS2 game at this point.

I appreciate your input and knowledge when it comes to PhysX. If you know how to make all coats move on Vito without global being set to low, please let me know.
