Bane's Muppet Master is good synergy for summoning class.

Depends on your difficulty, I would recommend coldheart for the pistol passive, and crowd control passive if you're playing on ridiculous.

If you play ridiculous just get a great weapon to begin with and then switch over to cannon once you find a good one. Coin shotgun skill is op. Also pets are quite broken since they go away and you cant spawn them until youve traveled a few instances

using any 2hander is no good. the most broken thing is doubloons on hit% and you can get over 100%+ on a focus from level 1+, but you will be lucky to find 30%+ on armor.

the best weapon would be a 1h melee+focus, as you can get 50% damage reduction for 10sec on melee.

The FD is actually pretty good with the CC because of the bonuses on Double Cross and Maelstrom that buff the basic attack damage quite significantly.

i dont know what you mean by FD or CC? fire relic? focus can roll over 100% basic damage and flat damage. its still better than 2h or a passive buff.

Sorry, I meant Flaming Destroyer(FD) and Cursed Captain(CC). Generally you can roll 100% basic attack damage and flat damage on a focus, that is true, but it is possible to roll those on a 2-hand weapon as well as they have 1 more affix slot and all 2-hand-weapons have an innate crit chance and higher base damage than 1-hand weapons.

Generally the great-weapons are balanced in a way that they have a very high area damage but a slow attack speed and it takes a while for frenzy to take effect with them. With Double Cross though you get that initial burst of speed that helps build frenzy to a good level right away. Also all the buffs are based on the weapon's base attack damage so 100% damage increase to a mace would mage it hit for iirc 320% weapon damage while a 100% damage increase to a great-weapon would make it hit for 700% weapon damage instead. The maelstrom buff + basic attack class synergy skill + relic basic attack passive skill gets you to 980% weapon damage in a large area per swing before applying the relic aura effect and additional affixes you might have on your equipment. That being said I think a mace build with the same buffs would generally have a higher single target damage output because of the attack speed as the attack speed bonus is capped at 60% additional attack speed.

I've been using Coldheart and it has worked quite well. I have found using a rifle to be far more effective than the cannon.

that cap is so low, makes basic dmg even worse imo. you could be capped with basic attack speed on armor btw. save skill slot and legendarium. i just got a chest with 30% speed its lvl30 with no challenge bonus or lifebound. 1h sword still swings multiple time faster capped also.

i was looking forward to a basic attack build too, i tried that and its decent on the first map.

but plunderbus alone with around the same skill points and one legendarium slot with do around 900%+, hit twice, with multiple projectiles, use any weapon you want, and hit half the screen from safe ranged distance. even then its still the smallest part of my dps.

with a lot of lucky endgame gear farming, full basic damage gear you might hit 2000-3000% and be limited to one weapon. its about what plunderbus would do far easier/earlier.

the only way they could have made basic damage good, is scale the secondary effects with the basic damage bonus, snako stick, relic effects on basic hits etc, which it doesnt atm. theres a lot of cool effects on basic attack that are just useless imo.

Honestly - I found plunderbuss really underwhelming when I tried it in the PTR version especially considering it costs coins. With the basic attack option you also have a large aoe going constantly with the maelstrom skill. It is to each their own and all about having fun so if the build worked for me I think someone else might find it fun as well :)
