Railmaster Conductor is weak?
Hi,
I play on Hard and i find this class focused on train just weak. I start character with idea pet class. My expactation was my train can carry me. So i invest almost all skill points to conductor skill line. I am lvl 22 and i dont die yet. But fight is so slow. I kill boss, but its Hell eternity. Today i play few hours with sharpshoter with posion and this class is stronger hands down. Game ready for release? Its good on paper, but Who want play heavy unbalanced arpg?

minion builds have always been weak in torchlight; theyre meant primarily as a distraction for you to do damage (and train is in a weirder position because unlike other minions; its invulnerable)

that said; try sticking it out for a couple more levels; minion bane SS i was very close to rerolling at around that level; but at high 20s it just clicked and started working (largely because i started to invest in relic; miasma and arachnid assault)

I've been playing a conductor build that completely ignores the rail car skills and at lvl 41 I can tear pretty much anything apart. Not sure if gear would help but minion builds will cause your hero to suffer as you have no skills to actually do damage without your cars.

i think you mean railmaster? conductor is the railcar skill line (only one non railcar skill); slammer being the other skill line

Been playing Railmaster + Bloodrinker and it is the perfect melee killing machine. Very hard to die and things just fall over and bleed everywhere. I play a bane sharpshooter and cold duskmage at the same time (swap every 5 levels) so I can compare between them. The railmaster just kills faster and can face tank anything. The blood drinker heals are amazing

I tend to focus on the fire relic and ignore the trains entirely, but that is just me.

shield car helps for defense, I play using 5pts total in conductor skill tree, they are good distraction do add extra dmg and shield car defense boost is nice.

I honestly find that relics is majority of character dmg and class skills are just extra stuff, focus on relic skills and you'll do enough dmg to kill anything easily.

Also, at endgame mobs seem to be glass cannons, hit hard but have low hp. I can barely tell difference b/w normal and ridiculous diff. same stuff that 1 shots me in ridculous does in normal diff. and I kill stuff just as fast in ridiculous as normal diff. game needs way more balance for endgame.

Hello, i am lvl 44 now, and i am doing good with this class, but unfortunately character cant be builded around train. Lets see what endgame can bring

Would be nice if there was a set or legendary items that buffed the conductor tree

I use a Railmaster fire relic basic attack build. All points into fire relic except 1 for movement skill.

During the beta, Conductor was totally insane so I don't think it's the opposite now.

I started playing Sharpshooter and got frustrated by the time it takes to clear the trash. Switched to a railmaster character and started a build that doesn't rely on the train and the damage difference is way better, and less squishy too.

I think doing a bit of trial by error learning or if you want to take a shortcut, some research on the net will help you find the build to suit your playstyle.
recently got my 'conductor' railmaster to 25 and honestly shreds even though it was primarily a theme build for the voltura shocking rounds achievement

build track sucks, if you're relying on that as a damage source its gonna take you forever to kill anything (not even big stuff; trash too)

flamethrower car is bomb; the active is over 1500% weapon damage; that combined with unstable current (or whatever the electrode drain is called) and basic attacks shred enemies, if it gains the 100% damage bonus from miasma then i regret not running bane train

minions (/train) cant be relied upon; they're utility/burst damage/a distraction (well train isnt a distraction since its untargetable); you still need to be doing something (whether thats relic or slammer based is up to you, but if you sit back waiting for trains/goblins/whatever to kill something alone then its gonna take a long time)
