Doesn't matter, l layer down floor up that will suffice.

A roof can only be a maximum of 12 blocks wide on the triangle side.

You can try adding 2 half roofs that meet in the middle (the floor you say you built should support them no problem).

like jermarlie said, be sure the roof slopes are the ones meeting on stable grounds. its more realistic i guess, since too long slopes would easily collapse. for really big square buildings it would have to be halfroofs with floor tiles meeting on top. smaller buildings its free choice, the stability is always good. pillars and beams help with stability for floor roofs and gives room for attics
