To be honest, it's so much of a hassle to convert files to .ogg that it is almost a pointless feature.
Those are restrictions of the game engine
A lot of music games (and engines) use ogg or aac format because mp3 isn't free for commercial use, each game/app license costs $2,500. No matter what steam, android, web, any commercial use of MP3 requires a proper license and it's very expensive.
Hey! Let me ask you, how are you trying to add songs?
You should press "A" in playlist menu, then head over to the folder with your song(s), press Open, and all .ogg tracks will be added. If it isn't working for you, you can add me on Discord, show me your screen and I will help you :)
I think the issue I had was that I converted a bunch of songs, had them in a folder, but maybe the game couldn't add them all at once?
I converted just one song for the folder, added it, then it worked. Then added in the others, and it hooked just fine.
Maybe that might've been it... I appreciate that you were willing to help out!
I'm glad it works now, have fun!
Hello! Are you sure that you edited BPM with your mouse in the bottom left corner? Because you may just tap the correct BPM, not actually set it. 60 BPM is a default one if you haven't set your own BPM
Hey, to add your song you have to open the left train (by completing 1st song on the right train). Or wdym?
The engine used is the GameMaker which is extensible through scripts. The engine itself doesn't offer any mechanism to work with encoded/compressed audio files, which is the case for mp3 files, precisely because for that you will need a codec... codec requires licenses...
You can make some hacks yourself and make it work using external dependencies to enable extra functionality like that, but honestly, it would be a lot of work to get same functionality you already have... just go and convert the file, please!
