so the game has an old fps bug that never got fixed and relies on 3rd party software to fix it. no dice im going to ask for a refund.

if square enix will not fix the fps bug then they do not deserve a dime of my money and they dont deserve yours either.

what sucks is it used to run fine on everyones pc until the windows 10 2004 update wich broke the game and they never bothered to fix it.

I just started to play yesterday, like 13h of gameplay and then suddenly the fps dropped with NO reason... this is unacceptable. And looking for a fix, I just known that this issue always existed, I'm really disapointed.

And we all know that SE will do nothing about this, I'm really sad and angry. If I want to play FF8 again, I'll play the old version.

Can confirm. Updated W10 last week. Fired the game up today to play some more of my last playthrough (near the end too) and the FPS loss is unbearable. Runs at like 20-22 FPS...

i feel sorry for the people that werent able to get a refund and its so disappointing that i cant play this classic with updated graphics. but its not the first time square enix has released a game without patching it.

be prepared for misery when they port over final fantasy 7 remake and it has a game breaking bug.

chances are it will never be fixed.

yes if you are ok with the original graphics and having to download the ps1 music files to replace the midi files. but im sure as hell not downloading the special k crap.

dont wanna have to download that for just one game that has issues.

id buy the game again if someone could find a viable work around where no mods are needed and you dont have to load up the game on a stupid cell phone to get proper fps.

But as I said, I wont touch this game again, just beat the game and its awful. All they did was a "make up" in main characters, and plus you can activate cheats accidentally if you press R3.

The background still in PS1 graphics, seriously I think a mod made by a fan its better than this.

I tested the Xbox Game Pass version of the Game. Had no issues at all. Same system but on steam it has slow 22 FPS. Is this a random bug or is this an steam exclusive bug?

it's a windows 10 update that caused this, it has to do with hardware acceleration screwing up some old games

not everyone wants to download 3rd party software to fix an issue square enix needs to patch themselves. they have has plenty of time to fix the issue but never did.

i looked at my hardware gpu scheduling and its off. something else about windows 10 has to be effecting it.

im maybe just going to give in and rebuy the game and use the special k mod. but im not changing my down vote.

i can 100% confirm special k works. you dont even need to have special k on your computer for it to work. you just need those 2 files in the final fantasy 8 directory and name one to opengl32.dll and it works. but like i said im still not changing my vote.

but yea you can just delete all the other files because those are the only 2 you need.

Another game that is broken thanks to a Windows Update. Same thing happened to Gears of War - Ultimate Edition. You can't play that game at 60fps anymore, no matter what you do, and that's a 5 or 6 year old game...people are still waiting for a fix, but i doubt it'll ever come...
Actually, i've seen a bunch of people on Reddit having problems with the 20H2 update as well. A couple of years ago a Windows 10 update broke my OS to the point that i couldn't play half of my Steam library anymore and i had to fix each one of them manually. Square should've contacted Microsoft about that, no doubt about it, but honestly...♥♥♥♥ you Microsoft.
