download button at top of site
i last tried 11.0.50 version and it was working

use winrar or 7z to extract
place SpecialK32.dll and Specialk32.pdb in the ff8 install directory
rename the SpecialK32.dll to opengl32.dll
play the game

you can play at the normal framerate and have better borderless window support and other stuff
no need to put sleepless window or anything

i will put a back up of the file if the official one goes under or something

Make sure you have all direct x and c++ redistributables installed

disable all antivirus

Try running game as admin and/or installing game 'NOT' in program files

disable haptic feedback in special k menu > input management >
gamepad > haptic feedback for ps5 controllers
pic of it working

ill maybe go through the game with cheats and see if it lags anywhere

I believe it is still lagging even before the patch on certain parts of the game like the desert prison semi-boss battle and Balamb section underground boss battle where you battle the Oil-something monsters

Thank you for linking this for us and thanks for the author of the fix. Nice job, my man. Now I'll keep fighting to make the texture mods work and get a better experience out of this awesome game. :happy_creep:

oh my god this guide is 10/10. Thanks man for this fix/workaround and SpecialK isn't needed to run in background is the best at all, so it's applied automatically :)

Can confirm this works for my friend, just renamed the one file, and put the two files in, and like magic, it fixed it

Many thanks, I just got finished with FF7 2 days ago and was excited to see what FF8Remastered had to offer. I was a bit disappointed that the game ran so slow until I found out that it was a common bug. I unfortunately didn't get to play it yesterday night because I wasen't able to fix it but today I followed your guide, booted up SpecialK (I used global injection instead) and I finally can enjoy the game at a solid 31 fps. Lots of respect for your time and effort into writing this guide.:cuphead:

Extracted the 2 files, and renamed the 1 file as instructed. I did nothing else and re-launched the game. Getting steady 30FPS instead of 22FPS now! Fantastic fix, thanks!!! :)
