FINAL FANTASY VIII - REMASTERED

ERROR: Can't open configuration file
There seem to be many Bugs that causes the Game not to start.
Mine does not start too and gives me the following Error:
Error: 3889861889 : 337
Can't open configuration file : 'config.txt'
Someone else got that Error - or maybe someone who fixed it?

For whatever reason, the folder that had the config file in it didn't match up to my Steam ID. When I changed it to the correct number, it was able to open.

Go to https://steamidfinder.com/lookup/ and search for your ID, it's the steamID64 that the folder used.

Very helpful. ty. also, you might have to delete the config file.

the issue is happening because the game requires you to sign into a SE in the original version. In this new remastered version this was replaced with using your steamID..

the problem is that if you change your steam profile name ..you change your steamID which causes the game to cease to run as it can't run the launcher and "log in" to your account. Furthermore, for unsuspecting people who have no idea changing their steam profile name (steamid) would even matter for something like this, this is confusing. They change their profile and then go months without even playing this thing and remain totally oblivous as to what the problem is..

while the problem is that you no longer have the steam id you were using when you first installed this game..

Thanks for the help fixing this:lunar2020hearteyesrabbit:
Can't find any config in the Steam/steamapps/common/FFVIII Remastered folder I even searched for it. How do I change my steamID number then? folders don't show any steamID.

Which folder had the config file in it? I checked all of them couldn't find anything. There's no steam ID number in my Steam/steamapps/common/FFVIII remastered. I found a demaster CONF-file but I don't think it's that one and if it is where do I replace with the right steamID in the wall of text?

( I'm trying to get the remastered modded version running with the battlefield pack, lunarcry and horizonpack mods with the demastered mod tool)

In the SteamID folder where you'll probably see another subfolder present as well for game saves, just create a blank text file and name it config. The game will launch then.

Thanks a lot for this thread... My problem was similar but I think is not same... On my case the folder was created properly under C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered\Steam\ with the proper ID but the config.txt file was not created there... So I only create this file in blank and after that the game started properly.

I was installing mods without start the game first so maybe that can affect in some way.

thank you. this explains why there was 2 folders with an ID number and the config was in one but not the other, copied over and now it loads

For whatever reason, I had this problem but for me, what fixed my problem is ... restarting my pc and apply that windows update ...

Thank you!!! This ended up being the solution for me. I created a blank file called config.txt in the folder named for my steam ID. IT WORKED!! I can't thank you enough.
