Windows Issue affecting OMD 1 - Please Read!!!
The issue is that concerning a "Failed to initialize the engine" error dialog box is a Window 11-related problem caused by a bad recent Microsoft Update.

The Windows gaming community is waiting on a fix from Microsoft as the impact was widespread.

Thanks for posting this.

The link is from 2022, is the same problem back in 24H2 ?

The only problem that the game does not initialize is only happening to me in Orc Must Die 1! In 2 and 3 it does not happen why?

Any idea when this will be fixed?
KwstaKnight Dec 13, 2024 @ 5:33am
Thanks for posting Robot Entertainment and acknowledging the problem; but this isn't a solution. The second, more recent article merely states Ubisoft has fixed the problem on their titles, not that Microsoft is taking any corrective measures outside of lifting the block on deploying the version update to affected systems. A robot entertainment game isn't even mentioned here.

```Microsoft now says it lifted the upgrade blocks for devices with Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora last Thursday after Ubisoft released temporary hotfixes that mitigate the crashes (although those affected might still experience some performance issues).```
Agreed. Robot Entertainment should be making this their top priority to find a fix as they are missing out on a ton of revenue. I was about to buy all 3 games for 4 of my friends to play over Christmas but instead iv had to buy something else that works.
There isn't a solution at the moment is the thing.
These references are letting folks know this isn't a problem on our end but one that is from the Windows 11 issue. Our team is monitoring it and seeing if there is anything we can do at all since it wasn't something we did that caused this.
Waiting for a Microsoft fix isn't a solution.
I know this has also effected a bunch of other game such as Ubisoft titles, but they put a patch out to fix their games immediately as well as some other studios. MS haven't put out a hotfix and its been over a month. Maybe time to start taking action your end.? Being the fact that its your software It's sort of your responsibility to all of the people who bought your game to get it working on modern systems. OMD1 is pretty old now and I'd excuse that as being more of a compatibility thing. But OMD3 you latest working title and your just going to sit on your hands??
I implore you to re-read what I said that you quoted.
"There isn't a solution at the moment" - meaning, there isn't a solution with us. We have been looking into it regardless. It just wasn't our fault this happened in the first place.
We've even put this on our website as well - https://robotentertainment.com/omdsteamtechfaq
We will be continuing to work on a solution, but we're a small team shipping our newest game next month. OMD3 hasn't really seen this issue either - it seems to be only affecting OMD1. Again, we're not letting is go, we will get a fix here eventually.
I hope you can understand. Thank you.
I was kind of hoping to get in a little orc gibbing for the holidays, and this is my favorite of the series so far, so this is disappointing. However, I do appreciate that you have finite resources and obviously that's going to be focused on the upcoming release. I hardly consider myself a developer, but I've dabbled enough to know that sometimes this sort of thing happens. Maybe while you're looking into a fix for this bug, you could finally fix the issue with the Sorceress' dialog being so quiet if you haven't since the last time I played.
Thank you for confirming you are investigating. I am looking forward to finishing OMD1 before picking up deathtrap.
An update would be nice. Also the issues reported in the 2 links provided are not even mentioning this gamer or this issue. So its really pointless.
For those asking, we're still waiting to hear back from Microsoft but are in touch with them on this and worked over the holiday break to get more information.
Thank you.
