Is there a chance you have a controller hooked up? Sometimes the game will override one of the normal controls with the gamepad such as the analog stick instead of looking with the mouse if it's connected. If you have that hooked up, try using the buttons there, like down on the Dpad. Removing it before you start the game could help. The only other thing I can think of is make sure you don't have Ctrl or some other key pressed simultaneously.

If that dosen't work I suggest reinstaling the game and verifing the game's files.
i just played yesterday the game for the first time and all is working. Maybe try reinstall the game. what i see you cant change the keys in the setting.

I just bought the game and I have the same issue.
I am using a generic controller, which works fine for orcs must die 2.
It says press down arrow to open spellbook. It is the only button that doesn't respond. But even if I press B in the keyboard, still nothing happens.

To be 100% clear there are misc. controller emulation apps/drivers that can also cause this problem, so "I don't have a controller" may not be the end of investigating this problem; you should also make sure u have none of those types of utils installed.

Neither the keyboard works. All other buttons work, apart from B to open the spellbook

Remapping your key bindings in the original OMD can be accomplished by following the steps in this FAQ. Note that you may have Steam installed on a different drive that the D: drive shown in the FAQ, so adjust the location accordingly.

Thank you for your response.
I followed the instructions step by step, but the issue persists.
There is no way to open the spellbook.

I made this thread several years ago. I did try remapping, reinstalling etc that time and it didn't work. I already refunded the game and I'll probably just think about buying the 2 part instead, since appsrently a very rare bug specific to my system didn't let me play the first.
I'm happy to know that developers are still interested to solve our issues, but it's a bit too late.
