Origin required?
I really dislike Origin. If I buy this (including the DLC) via Steam, will I have to activate some part of it via Origin?

That answer... doesn't fill me with confidence.

No you do not need Origin. 38 Studios self published this version on Steam. EA does not have the rights to this version. Therefore, no Origin.

Thanks. I had that impression, but I wanted to be sure.

No Problem. I've been dying for this to go on sale just for the very reason of having a non-Origin copy.

No the only thing is..you do connect to the EA servers, but with the Steam version. You don't have to associate with Origin to do that.
I just bought this. Before you can start the game, it prompts you to enter your EA/Origin password. Once you're in, you can turn off the "let EA track you" toggle in the Options menu.

Thank you, almost bought this, but just not willing to deal with EA DRM.

From what I see, the DLC requires the 3rd party DRM called EA Access.
1st: What's EA Access?
2nd: Do you need an EA Origin account to run the DLCs?

I don't think thats the point of this post. I know I at least, and probably the guy who posted this would rather play an extra $8 on steam than have to deal with anything EA or Origin for that matter. Hell, if a game was $20 less on Origin than it was on Steam I would 100% still buy it from Steam.

I don't care for Origin. More to the point, my entire libary is already in Steam and I don't want to load another piece of software just to play the one game. I'd prefer not to have to set up an EA account for the DLC, but as long as it can be done from within the game and not a second software library (with one thing in it), then I'll live.

Whoa, almost bought this and that would have been a mistake. I tried origin, I have an account but I never want to deal with them or use that account us/pwd ever again. Yea they can kiss off. Yea sorry steam, would have bought this game but I am not dealing with Origin ever again. Next time write them out of the contract for both our sakes. I'll pay the extra $.

if u buy from steam no origin this in cludes dlc. if you buy this on origin then its stuck on there and same when playing with the dlc. steam and origin are completely different but i say buy any previous EA games on steam. service on origin sucks and steam is more reliable but any newer or future release EA game like crysis 3, battlefield 4, simcity is now exclusive only on origin pc.
Selexo 17. März 2013 um 0:25
Yeah really sad about Simcity stuck on Origin, *sigh* but I do have a Origin account for at least the login to my EA games like Burnout and Mass Effect and Need For Speed...... in game logins don't bother me as long as I don't require the actual client to be installed. Have to login into most games now a days like RockStar Social, Stardocks, GFWL, and UBI stuff.. Not a deal-breaker but definitely a hurtle or headache sometimes.
