First boss will not die

I have taken all of his health and the rock troll has an f above his head and when i hit f nothing happens. I have redownloaded the game, used a controller, and have restarted the game, Does anyone have a fix or am i missing something,

Don't yu have to press and HOLD whatever key (I changed mine) to enter reckoning mode first? Then press "interact" (usually F) when you're near the enemy. The game tells you when to do this. Then you get the quick time event button (mouse 1 or 2 or space bar on computer without game pad) to finish the boss.

As I think of it, you can enter reckoning mode anytime your fate bar is full. It doesn't have to be with a boss.

i had problems killing the last big boss too. tryed 4-5 times. but i read online somewere, when you see the F letter come up. hit the A letter 1st then the F letter. i did that. and the boss dropped like a rock. that was after a few X reckoning modes to kill the little ones. try it. might work. or maybe i just got lucky. fun fun game though.

And try to hold the F button first. It's a great game, don't give up! (But if you do, try to get steam to give your money back)

Let me share my experience with this issue.

I certainly remember not having this problem on my old PC under Windows XP in 2012. (Now I'm on Windows 8.1.)

So I have the same problem - playing with keyboard and mouse, and pressing F does nothing at all on first boss - Rock Troll. I also have the gamepad (Xbox360-compatible) connected and tried various things with it:
- playing with it disconnected completely.
- trying to press A (Xbox360's equivalent of E on keyboard) on it when I need to finish the boss.
- playing the whole fight with the gamepad.

Won't describe in detail, but somehow I've found what makes it work. At least for me.
Right Trigger on gamepad. Press it once at any point in your game.

Here is my currently most extreme demonstration case:
- I've started playing with keyboard and mouse, never touched the gamepad.
- I've got to the first boss - Rock Troll. Pressing F to finish it doesn't work.
- I have the savegame "A" right before the Rock Troll encounter.
- I load the savegame "A".
- I press the Right Trigger on gamepad once.
- I save the game as savegame "B".
- I quit the game.
- I disconnect the gamepad from PC.
- I start the game and load savegame "B".
- I defeat the Rock Troll.
- Pressing F works.

Feel free to try.

If this works for everyone else, it could also explain these cases:
- You played on keyboard until you needed to press F to kill the Rock Troll, then you switched to gamepad and it doesn't work because you didn't try pressing any other buttons.
- You played on keyboard until the Rock Troll encounter, then you switched to gamepad and it still didn't work because you never tried to use magic skills (Right Trigger is needed to activate magic).
- You played on keyboard until the Rock Troll encounter, then you switched to gamepad and it worked because you've pressed Right Trigger at least once during the fight.

What's interesting is why not everyone seem to have this problem. My random guess is that when the gamepad is connected - even if you don't use it - any new game (fresh character with fresh savegame) will start in this bugged state, which would haunt you through the whole walkthrough, and you'll need to press Right Trigger to fix it.
The only way to verify this is to start new game with gamepad disconnected and get to the first boss again. Not sure if I will have enough time and motivation for that any time soon.

You have to have used Storm Bolt - Right Trigger + X - in order for the reckoning power to unlock, thats why it fails to activate on killing the Ogre. the game introduces it when you first get to the glowing plants, before the Spiders.

I don't think this is a good explanation.
- Where there is a mechanic like "activate some scripted event at some point of the game to gain new ability", there should be no additional mechanic like "use some basic attack ability at least once before being able to gain new improved ability". This does not make sense.
- Storm Bolt is activated with RMB on mouse, and I've used it plenty. It did not enable me to finish the Rock Troll with F key.

I guess it would be interesting to replay the whole first level without using Storm Bolt to see if it's really needed to be used at least once to kill the boss. Like I've said in my previous comment, only pressing Right Trigger once allowed me to do that. I did not need to cast Storm Bolt with the gamepad.

To anyone who still has this problem: You have to press LT + A. Not just A alone.

I'm playing with windows 10, keyboard and mouse on PC.
With Fate bar full, press and hold the "X" key while using left mouse button to fight, then when says press F, followed by pressing the Space bar space bar for a mini show of magic hammer or harpoon finishes the kill.

THIS!! I'm in October of 2020 playing the game on Origin through their Play game pass. Game runs flawlessly and I had 0 issues leading up to that point in the game. I repaired the install multiple times, I loaded multiple older saves trying to salvage the character I made. Every time I beat the rock troll I couldn't hit F (or any other keybind) to finish the fight. I'm savvy enough when it comes to troubleshooting, so low and behold a steam support thread from 2 years ago would have a legend like this to save the day. <3

2021 March, Windows 10. This has fixed my Re-Reckoning game. Used an XSX controller. Instant finished boss where using "F" on keyboard did nothing for days.

Thanks for this thread! I started playing with a Dualshock 4 controller connected, but DS4Windows not running (so the gamepad wasn't recognized), and was playing entirely with mouse and keyboard. No combination of pressing/holding F, trying to get closer, or killing the troll in other parts of the room worked.

I then ran DS4Windows, switched to gamepad controls, and after pressing the right trigger once the finisher worked perfectly.

Pressing and holding RT and then casting the X spell with a controller let me finish the boss battle with m/kb by pressing F on the first try afterwards meanwhile spamming f dozens of times at all angles and distance from troll did nothing before.
