Darksiders is closer to a Zelda/Arkham Asylum while KoA is closer to a WoW/Fable/Dragon Age.
I enjoyed them both myself and they're of comparable qualitty so it's comes down to whether you like adventure games more than rpg's.
Actually Darksiders 2 has more rpg elements and I can say as many as this. It has loot and gear collection, leveling up, skill unlocks, grim reaper form and stuff.
I LOVED Fable one alot, it is one of my childhood game aside from Diablo II. But I just find this KoA boring in comparison. Combat is fun, story is weak despite R.A. Salvador. World is beautifully crafted and a threat to look at but in the end feels empty and uninvolved.
Side quests are boring.
I say Skyrim has better side quests than this.
OH and the menu! It is clearly made for consoles. I hate the menu system!
Yes Darksiders had a lot of RPG elements but RPGs are more than just levels and skills but also crafting systems, quest managment, exploration elements, etc. etc.
Really KoA:R really doesn't come into its own till you start crafting rediculously OP gear for yourself making yourself immune to various damage types and really customizing your character to be exactly what you want it to be.
Also, Skyrims questing is pretty crappy, as are its skill/progression systems. I don't know why Bretesda always gets a free pass about those things. As for menu and UI same could be say for most multiplatform games. Skyrim has a horrible console-centric UI that I am glad you can mod and make a proper PC interface out of.
Game preference is one thing but there is no way it's accurate to say that Darksiders 2 has more rpg elements. Yeah it has loot, skills, etc on par for an action-adventure game but definitely not on the same level or scale of something like KoA.
KoA has all those rpg attributes in greater amounts plus much more. It's got the range of rpg skills like alchemy, sagecraft, blacksmithing, mercantile, lockpicking, sneaking, pickpocketing, dispelling traps, persuasion....TONS of quests, tons of NPC's and interaction, much more dialog and conversations, more in depth skill trees and character progression, more loot, more weapons/armor, bigger world, more dungeons, etc, etc. It covers most of the rpg bullet points.
That's not to knock Darksiders 2 at all...both are fantastic games in their respective genres but Darksiders 2 is not more rpg-heavy by any stretch.
What he said.
DS1>KoA>DS2 In my opinion, really didn't think much of DS2, it wasn't what I was looking for in a DS2 sequel, especially after the DS1 ending!
KoA has more lore and substance in thier quest than half of skyrim quest, only decent quests in skyrim is blackhand , dawnguard, and the main storyline the rest are subpar. Yes even the thief quest line is predictable.
If you are to lazy to read the quest in the stories in KoA then you are missing out and if you do not collect the lore stones that is your fault. THere is TONS of quest to do in KoA if you skip them that is your own fault.
I played DR1 but not bother playing DR2. i looked at the game play videos and story line videos and it did not spark my interest like DR1 did.
As for lore.. sigh* the same old same old. Nothing special. But to be fair, is not a game breaker. Is the Fetch Quests that that's repeated the whole game that killed it.
Not that I'm trying to discourage anyone, but if you're buying the game, take note of the fetch quests issue. If you're okay with it, then by all means the game should deliver some fun and value for the money.
some of us, just game too much (both RPG and MMO) that we are just sick of it.
