How do you pick locks?
Seriously guys, I can't seem to figure out for the life of me, how to pick locks.

Am I supposed to press "D" key to slide the lock towards the right, while trying to place the pick at different angles, and if the lockpick starts to shake, I need to change to a different angle?

If that's how you pick a lock, then sorry but that's pretty retarrrrrrded.

Yup thats how it works, as you slide the lock to the right if it starts to shake then your pick is about to break. You need to move it a new spot and try again.

Right. Logic suggests I should have the pick at 9AM, then work my way counterclockwise to 3AM.

Or does the game require you to randomly shift the pick between 9 and 3?

I hope it's the former.

And where did you get that idea from? LOL I'm loving the game in general, but that doesn't mean I'm loving its lockpicking aspect of it.

Set the pick, then press the D key. If the pick is in the correct position, the slider will move all the way to the right, and the lock will open.

If the pick starts to shake, the pick is in the wrong position. Where the slider thingy is when the pick starts to shake tells you how close you are to the correct position. For instance, if it slides 3/4 of the way to the right, then the pick starts to shake / break, you're close. Though whether you need to move clockwise or counter-clockwise with the pick can only be discovered by trial and error. If the slider thingy only slides 1/4 of the way across, you're pretty far off from the correct spot.

The sweet spot for locks in the game usually involve points in-between 9 (left), 6 (downwards) and 3 (right). None of the locks I have ever picked were completely to the left, right, or downwards.

Unfortunately, logic isn't really a part of this mini-game. It's trial and error. Be sure to stock up on lock-picks when you can.

Yes sir, thank you kindly for the tips : )
This is one part of the game that is easier if you have a joypad that rumbles. Because everytime you are going in the wrong postion the pad stars to shake. But if you are going in the right direction the pad remains still. It is used like a guide, it makes things a lot easier. Plus as well this game was built for a pad.

I've actually become rather good at picking locks now, picking hard locks with no more than 2 picks.

You just need to watch the pick, and hold/release "D" (moving right) little by little.
