That NPC knows your character for a reason that has nothing to do with your character's race. It's a reason that isn't revealed until slightly before the end-game, so I'll say nothing more. Don't want to reveal anything.
I see. I never got that far into the game. The level ranges being set upon entering a new area kind of put me off before, but maybe when I get to playing around with the YSA mod It'll keep me interested.
Varani lose out on racial bonuses. Lockpicking is pretty easy in this game and there are minimal conquences for failing, so +2 to it is less helpful then other options.
Almain are your typical humans. Their bonuses aren't bad, with +2 to Blacksmithing they get an early start on making your own gear, something that can be very powerful (though mostly later). Their bonus to Persuasion is nice, though there are only a few areas where Persuasion is important.
Ljosalfar elves get the worst bonuses, though it's not exactly a big deal if you prefer them anyway. Dispelling is, unless you are very good at the mini-game, a very risky and expensive way to get mostly just a little random treasure.
Dokkalfar are neat because their big bonuses is in a skill you either already know you want (stealth) or simply might never use at all.
Yeah, the RP + looks + potential gameplay, but the bonuses are rather small. Except Stealth or Blacksmith, those are rather nice.
Almain aren't really interesting to me.
Varani are Vikings, no? Warhammer Norsca and all. If so, that has potential.
Elves are both very interesting. Where the Ljos remind me of Pillars of Eternity's Pale Elves(Glamfallen) - always an interesting and unique take, while the Dokks are very appealing personally, what with Druchii, but not as extreme vibe to them(I really like Dark Eldar in 40k for example). I'm just concerned that being a Dokk isn't..."special" enough, what with everyone apparently liking them. I have tried Stealth approach and I really dig that, though the Faeblades are just "lol Demon Hunter / Illidan wannabe" imo(with some Raiden moves).
Though Ljos (Great)sword + Magic sounds promising as well. Swordmaster and all. I'm so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ creative.
