Gear sets.
How exactly do i get a whole 4 or 5 piece gear set that isnt from a quest chain reward or faction?

Like i have about 20 different legendary set names and only 2 or 3 of them have 2 to 3 of the 4-5 set.

And as i'm leveling their level requirements are adjusting too, like i have a pair of boots for lv4 and the chest piece for lv28 ???????

Most of them are just random drops from chests and enemies. As to the sheer difference in levels between two different pieces of armor in the same set, that's tied directly to what level YOU were upon entering each individual region, as different sets can be scattered around the map. Every enemy and every possible item/equipment drop within a given region is tied to whatever level you were when you first entered that region, and locked in thereafter.

I'll give you an example: Say you have two different pieces of armor from one specific set, you picked up Piece A during your first visit to Oderath West at level 4, and you picked up Piece B during your first visit to Rathir at level 18. Due to the difference in levels when yo entered each region for the first time, the individual capabilities of Piece A will be vastly under-leveled compared to those of Piece B.

Other than for a few levels at the very beginning due to the DLC it is very rare to get significant bonuses from a yellow set. After several times playing through the game obtaining bonuses through a yellow set is just not something to hope for. Do not beat yourself up with frustration. By the time you collect most of the set it will be so far behind you in level that (except rarely and for only a short period) there will be better choices.

If you want powerful (or overpowered!) armor make your own via the Blacksmithing Skill. You can get much more that way than the little bonuses you would have gotten from that entire yellow set in time to be of any real benefit.

Personally, I rarely use that skill unless needed for quests because, as I mentioned, it is potentially overpowered. I prefer to wear the best equipment I happen to come across and let that be enough, but Blacksmithing can be fun in itself. Single player game... do whatever is fun.
I still have both dlcs and half the games base world to quest in and i'm already lv31, so i'll hit 40 and then hopefully ALL the gear will drop 40s

Only if you're entering an area for the first time. Remember, the level for all the drops and all the enemies in a given area becomes locked to your level when entering an area for the first time.

I dont think my games working properly, im lv31 and i just got to detyre, everythings grey and im getting lv7 loot, maybe i accidentally checked into this area around lv7?

I don't think so, but maybe.

IDK. guess i might earn 1 or 2 levels from killing trash, but i just accepted that hunt quest from aron in the hollowlands, they had a monster they doubted i could kill, took me about 5 sec.

Each area has a range of levels, and when you enter it and your level is higher than zone's range, the it's locked to the cap... so if a zone it's 4-10 and you're level 22, you'll only get level 10 enemies.

OTOH, caves (if you haven't entered them) are a higher cap than the zones in which they are in, so if a quest takes you back to a old zone to visit a cave/dungeon... chances are that inside the enemies will be at your level, or at least, of a higher level than the outside zone itself.

Some caves (specially those locked to quest lines) have a level cap of 99, so it's always worth it to save them for the late game and do them when you reach the level cap yourself.

I thought the level cap was 40? Anyway, when i got to the arena, i started fighting some yellow and orange named enemies, i guess the arena scales up, i got a level up from there, i did the whole questline and then did all but 2 of those challenges on the arena board, didnt do the magic/stealth voided ones. Ill come back at lv 40 and spec into warrior for it.

I have noticed some caves have yellow and orange enemies so thats good to confirm thanks.

Yeah, L40 is max attainable level true... by L99 I mean, that they're practically uncapped. At least that's how the info is shown in the tables I saw... (they're in the wiki.)

EDIT: Whoops... yeah L40, I got confused by how the game shows the progress to next level

Well i still have an achievement to earn for beating an enemy 4 levels above me or something, am i going to be able to earn that, or should i bump the difficulty way up, or should i just go ahead and create a brand new warrior character, get to level 5 and then do the teeth of narros and just hope i find some

I don't exactly remember the way I got it :(

I remember trying several times to get it the way the wiki suggest, by fighting the trolls in Haxhi, but that didn't work for me, sadly. But eventually I got it somehow, but it has been a few months already and I don't remember anymore what I did :(

I certainly created a new character and started again at level 1 and avoided fighting for a long time, running like crazy to one of the higher level zones nearby...

I don't have the level range table at hand so I can't point you the right way, but you can find it in the wiki... look for a zone with min level >= 6 or 7 so by the time you reach there, if you're 4 levels below that cap (you won't be able to stay L1 for long, you'll probably be level 2 or 3 by the time you reach there,) the enemies should be the proper level to trigger the achievement.

And keep in mind that you'll probably level up once while fighting them, so it's best to be sure and target the higher possible one that you can.

A lot of these gear sets i have random pieces of are still awful by comparison to my crafted hexweave gear i made when i was about lv20, i added heaps of crit and mana regen and mana cost reductions to every piece, so even if i decide to wear any set gear, i'd be sacrificing about 30% crit chance from my crafted gear.

So what's the deal with mastercraft? I assume you earn recipes late game for crafting OP gear?

I'm up to about 2mil gold, and i just checked my stats, so far i have salvaged 700ish weapons and 400ish armors, i also have about 40 of each pristine gem type, and i'm gonna make a few epic gems soon/

So endgame wise, are gear sets really viable for min maxing or is it better to craft your own?

( i critted for 5.5k with a spell) (also i often crit about 60% of the time) (also also, that ice barrage, hits 9 times and most of the time 5 hits are crits)

AFAIK, and I'm not an expert at all... crafted gear is always best in every and all cases, no matter if it's mastercrafted or not. That's why most people would suggest abstaining of using Blacksmithing and Sagecrafting to keep the game interesting at end-game.

Mastercrafted just adds an extra bonus to each piece you craft, and each type of piece has a different corresponding effect bonus to them.

That's pretty much correct. The equipment you create will always be OP compared to the level-appropriate gear you'll find on enemies and in chests. If you have high levels in both Blacksmithing and Sagecrafting, it gets truly ridiculous.
Well i'm lv35, almost everything dies in one spell hit. But i wanna min max, so i'm gonna respec at 40, go full smithsage, make some incredible gear and then respec back.

The one thing i did notice though is that a lot of gear has +1-2 all skills. And if it's anything like grim dawn, imma go +10 on some spells.

Note by a judicious and efficient use of trainers and skill books it is possible to max all the skills in the game minus 2 skill points which you can pick up in one of the DLC (3 are available but you only need 2 unless you miss one along the way by taking a skill at level-up when you could have used an available trainer.

I guess that will not help you for this run, but I find it a fun mini-game to play in parallel during replays of the main game.
