The Weeping King bug

So I pick up the withered branch and the npc says to me we need to find the key, uh I just picked up the darn key!? Quest wont update, any ideas on what I should do?

I know this is old, but as you are the only person to ever mention it.
I just encountered the same problem. And the fix, for anyone else who needs to know, is to turn your trainer/cheats off temporarily, as it can cause you to pick up multiple of the withered branch key, which confuses the quest.
