Games like KOA
So once upon a time, I finished this game and loved every minute of it. Since then, I’ve been trying to find a game that basically fills the role of “Amalur Part 2” and have been unsuccessful. Any suggestions? The combat was probably my favorite part of the experience if that helps.

-I’ve seen Guild Wars suggested before. Does it play like Amalur? Also, even though it’s supposed to be an MMO, is it also possible to just stay in your own lane and do a single-player campaign? And can you create female characters?

-Tried Dark Souls 3 yesterday. Only played for about 30 minutes and knew immediately that’s not what I’m looking for.

-Tried Dragon’s Dogma, but it got boring after a little while.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. If none of the recommendations pan out, my Plan B is just to play through Amalur again with a different class :P

Thanks everyone!

EDIT: No party mechanics please. I would rather do a solo campaign.

Dragon Age: Origins? A bit different with controls, but a similar feel to it. Only played it a short time on this account, but put 75+ hours in it on another account. Combat is a bit different, and I would recommend getting the more expensive Ultimate Edition if you can afford it, or can wait for it to go on sale again.

Darksiders.
Noir Dec 3, 2017 @ 8:28am
dragon age: Inquisition, darksiders 1 and 2, Skyrim, Witcher series.
Guild Wars might work as well and yeah, you can solo the game except for Inis, but if you go mmos, you could also pick up SWTOR (it's f2p) and play through the story.

- Fable The Lost Chapters (correction)
combat, characters, mood and overall direction of Hero. Fairly flexible character building but you can't respec. Not much lore though and no crafting.

-Oblivion w/expansions or Skyrim
if it's not there it probably can be found in a mod
Combat, crafting, open-world, lore

-------------- Maybe...

- Witcher 3 (Some ARPG similarities, quite different mood and combat though)

-Dragon Age 2
combat (much faster paced then others in the series) and lore (though Origins is a wonderful game. I'd suggest it first but if you found Dragon Dogma boring, --not sure how --unless you didn't like party mechanics) I suppose you could go from 2 to Inquisition which you may like better than hardcore Origin Fans do.
Some similarities there...if you like collecting things etc.

The combat, though not awkward on PC like Dragon Dogma, is party-based but not nearly as challenging.

There's not much out there that have the best parts this game had to offer, unfortunately. It's not my favorite RPG but it's hard to match in some areas.

Dragon Age Origins, as much as I love it, it's combat which was the OP's favorite part, is nowhere like KoA. Unlike here where you're controlling one person, in DAO , you're controlling a group of companions. Then, it's more of you ordering them to do an attack then doing it yourself and mircomanaging the battlefield to make sure you aren't dying in every engagement. Oh, and you have the option to pause mid battle, order a coordinated attack then sit back and enjoying the result. While I personally like it, it may not be what you're looking for.
Wow, you guys are quick haha. Thanks!

I probably should edit the OP to include the fact that I also would rather not do the party mechanics. That was another weird thing about Dogma.

Good to know I can solo Guild Wars; I might pick that one up if it’s on sale.

Skyrim for single player, you can get a companion if you want, that just kinda auto attacks stuff you do

Techromancer is a pretty cool game, has combat like this and blocking at the right time does the same effect

Mars: War Logs same as above game came out before it.

Bound by Flame same style Combat

Darksiders has a similar feel in aesthetics. That comic beasts come to life type of feel. Also conbat isn't too different.

Divinity II in terms of overall structure is very similar. Keep in kind that Divinity II doesn't have controller support though.

Fable, in terms of that fantasy setting theme.

Add all 3 together and you get KOA.

The "Risen" series of games is SP, I'd say Risen3 if you only want one game. But playing from 1 through to 3 is fun, to see how the game progressed. No character creation though, you play as a nameless shipwrecked dude. Risen 1 & 2 have free Demos on their Store pages you can try, Risen 3 does not.

Similar combat style and control set up (WASD to move muse to cotrol camera),no party mechanics, SP only, combat and lots of it, lots of loot and nice skill trees, lots of story (text and dialogue similar to KoA:R), choices matter similar to this game, but... if you want to play a customized character or a female character, that is absent.

Realistically, chances are you will never get that feeling again. KOA like any other western rpg, has its own unique feel and while that may be minor, that is enough to seperate it from the pack.

No, Guild Wars is totally different. Nothing like KOA at all.

Tried each of the Dark Souls games and never could get into them. Not very challenging and not much depth.

I'd say the difficulty for me came from finding out where to go.

How far did you get? I reckon the game was a bit more interesting than KOA and did a few things better.

I think you'd be better off with the latter option. Otherwise you're going to get a mixture of invalid opinions which states that specific games are like KOA (when in reality they are nothing like KOA).

If you haven't tried Divinity II Director's Cut, I'd say go for that. At least it's alot closer to KOA than Two Worlds or any other western rpg out there. Of course, that closeness may not be anything like what you're looking for. Problem is that it seems like you're lookiny for something more specific than just "similar" or "general feel".

It's currently on sale for $1.99 so... There's really no excuse lol

Yea im afraid he will likely be bored with the combat system and div 2, maybe there are some mods now but compared to koa? Its nothing compared to koas, dragons dogma would be closest.

Yep. I've played all 3 games on a different account. Enjoyed them all, but Risen 3 was by far my fave. But the Free Demos for 1 & 2, though the Demos barely scratch the surface of what the games are, would let the OP try before buying, and see if they like the look and feel, enjoy the combat and exploration, though they don't really go into the skill trees or quest system much. But... free Demos. If 1 & 2 run well, and they like the world (which is different from KoA:R, less High Fantasy/mythical but still lots of strange enemies and montsers) **Cthulu, anyone?**.

Always nice to be able to try it out before sinking money into a game.
I noticed they said combat was their favorite part... if OP is looking specifically for the combat, he may as well forget about everyone's suggestions start looking outside of the rpg genre as a whole. Rpg's don't usually have great combat in general, never really did.

Fortunately for him though, there are tons of hack and slash games with rpg elements which might just fill that void and can match the depth of KOA. I look at KOA as a hack and slash soul in the shell/body of an rpg.
