Linux support!
Saw the reveal trailer recently and thought it looked very promising!

Also saw you say you're already "95%" cross-platform, so I'm here to show interest in a Linux version :)

That's great, thank you! One of our users had some success running the game through WINE with a few rendering issues that I'm now working on. We're discussing it right now on our Discord Server: https://discordapp.com/invite/87NvZhn

Interesting! Just saw it add Linux system requirements, I assume this means a Linux version is now coming? :)

Yep! That's right

Hi,

So, when and where do we play it on PC Linux ?
Tchey Jan 18, 2020 @ 1:07am
For the record, the game is not running at all on my PC via Proton, i tried several common tricks, nothing. Click Play on Steam, game is marked as "running" for a few seconds, but then nothing.

However, i managed to launch the game via WINE outside of Steam, but it's half broken, i think. There is not GUI at all, when a press Esc it seems there should be one but there is not.

i'm in a kind of tutoral at the end there is a large room with yellow striped parts, not sur what i'm supposed to do then.

Also i cannot rebind key so it's very hard to play as i don't have qwerty but a french TypeMatrix BÉPO. If i switch keyboard layout, ingame it's still WASD, so not really playable.

So yeah, Linux please !

Is there an update on the Linux plans, as it seems it was removed from the system requirements.

On Discord last time i checked, it was "worked on". So i’d guess, not any time soon.

(edit, from Discord just now :

Vercidium: A Linux port is still WIP but @Literally Void got it working today under WINE, he might have some tips for you

Tchey: I don’t like much to mess with files and commands to run a game, i like to click Play and play. But i’m glad to read it’s still on its way

Vercidium: Yeah that will be the preferable option, just need to learn my way around Linux

I've spent the past few days moving the audio system over to OpenAL, and everything seems to be working well on Linux under WINE at the moment. My next step is porting the rendering code, which is a big task but my community has given me the pointers I need to move in the right direction.

Linux is a whole new world for me, so it will take some time to wrap my head around it :)

Ah, glad to know it's still happening! Once you are ready, do reach out to me here: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/

Good luck!

Is this still happening? Sounds like the game uses EAC now, so if there's a native port, that will still work, but it's a no-go for WINE. Just saw the trailer, and the game looks awesome.

Yeah, if it's using EAC it would absolutely need a Linux port. They've said a few times they're doing it, and they've done work towards it but haven't heard lately what their plan is.

i hope the linux-port is still planned, EAC is a no-go for wine/proton
bananasplit_00 Oct 31, 2020 @ 9:57am
Hoping for Linux too, EAC breaks any proton or other compat :steamsad:
Theo Stargazer Oct 31, 2020 @ 11:05am
I have asked on the forum[forum.sectorsedge.com], apparently they delayed Linux version because EAC on Linux is "less secure" than kernel-level driver you get on Windows. They still plan on releasing Linux version, but with possible "caveats".
