I too am disappointed to see piracy being pushed out of this game. I admit I never went full on pirate, I only dabble in it from time to time as I trade, but one thing I loved about PR1 and PR2 is the option was there, the game let me play in a variety of ways, it was flexible. I feel PR4 has become more restrictive on how it can be played, trade has taken over, and even the rules around trade and licenses have made the game less flexible.
Not only should piracy be put back to how it was in PR1 and 2, I feel the ability to be a pirate should be expanded upon and flesh out that aspect of the game more.
They had it in the game originally but thought..... hold on... let's chop this content and sell it as DLC....
Give it a few months and a new DLC focused on pirates will be out and be sold for like $40
Its what all game company's are doing lately.... make a game with all content already but chop it up to be sold as DLC....
They already did it for PR3 so why not here....
I'm actually enjoying a lot of what the game has to offer, the economic simulation is a big reason I picked up the game. Though the simulation seems off I'm going to mess with the difficulty / distribution to see if that changes things. It seems like its too stacked for production and there aren't enough mat sinks, also the warehouse doesn't seem to do anything other than waste money. My guess is that it was balanced around one difficulty / world setting and just scaled down.
I like being the bad guy in games, I've continued my playthrough as a pirate to find "the point" to no avail. It really seems as cut and dry as you can pirate merchants for 9 cargo with only half the loss in fame.
I was expecting a lot more to the role, if indeed they left it unfinished to make a DLC I will not endorse it.
If someone has a differing perspective on this I want to hear it.
going full pirate isnt viable right now.
the piratess starting 'class' is of no value right now.
^^^ This is the issue. Her best positive ability is of next to zero value. The free ship is weak (yea, it can rob merchants, but its junk generally) and the free captain rarely has good stats.
I really, really like the buccaneer. The 90% off LOM is a big deal when they start costing over a million a pop, the 5 free fame points lets you jump right into the action with some captains, etc.
