So whats the point of playing as a Pirate?
Yeah to be a Pirate ok cool but whenever you plunder a merchant you lose fame and get two annoying sound cues. You need fame to unlock things and buy the larger combat ships so again why would I actually pirate merchants?

As as suggestion for the Pirate: instead of fame, infamy making you unable to gain fame through trade and only gaining "fame" through piracy.

Additionally a separate audio slider for battle notifications and an option for the patrol option to only target merchants.

Apparently there's no point in playing as a pirate which is why people didn't buy the game. They ruined that part of the game. This game is just a "trade simulator."

Theres nothing to do if you play as a pirate. You loot a boat.... but then what? You can't trade that loot as everyone hates you because your a pirate.

You can't make your own pirate cove/hideout so you can't make your own pirate ships you can't found your own town.

You can play as a pirate only in name.

You can't set your own town up.

There's no pirate content at all.

I like your idea of having pirates use infamy rather than just fame.

I too am disappointed to see piracy being pushed out of this game. I admit I never went full on pirate, I only dabble in it from time to time as I trade, but one thing I loved about PR1 and PR2 is the option was there, the game let me play in a variety of ways, it was flexible. I feel PR4 has become more restrictive on how it can be played, trade has taken over, and even the rules around trade and licenses have made the game less flexible.

Not only should piracy be put back to how it was in PR1 and 2, I feel the ability to be a pirate should be expanded upon and flesh out that aspect of the game more.

I think I know why they didn't include piracy....

They had it in the game originally but thought..... hold on... let's chop this content and sell it as DLC....

Give it a few months and a new DLC focused on pirates will be out and be sold for like $40

Its what all game company's are doing lately.... make a game with all content already but chop it up to be sold as DLC....

They already did it for PR3 so why not here....

I never played the previous installments so I don't have the same perspective.
I'm actually enjoying a lot of what the game has to offer, the economic simulation is a big reason I picked up the game. Though the simulation seems off I'm going to mess with the difficulty / distribution to see if that changes things. It seems like its too stacked for production and there aren't enough mat sinks, also the warehouse doesn't seem to do anything other than waste money. My guess is that it was balanced around one difficulty / world setting and just scaled down.

I like being the bad guy in games, I've continued my playthrough as a pirate to find "the point" to no avail. It really seems as cut and dry as you can pirate merchants for 9 cargo with only half the loss in fame.

I was expecting a lot more to the role, if indeed they left it unfinished to make a DLC I will not endorse it.

If someone has a differing perspective on this I want to hear it.

fame points can't be lost. So right after earning one, taking a raid out is a good way to make quick cash, after raiding a bit your fame is where you left it for the next point. You can also nab treasure fleets or weak military convoys; say you are england and want a ship of the line ... picking off a friendly military convoy will earn you the ships for free, without money or fame costs, and possibly a ship to sell as well (useless military frigate, for example).

going full pirate isnt viable right now.
the piratess starting 'class' is of no value right now.

I started as the Piretess because I didn't want my trade ships being attacked by pirates. Then when in the game I didn't really see any pirates around. Then a war started with the English (I was Dutch) and I bought a letter of the mark and went to town on english merchants with the pirate ship she starts with. When you have a letter of the mark, each enemy merchant ship you grab gets you 10 fame. So it's better to privateer than pirate.

^^^ This is the issue. Her best positive ability is of next to zero value. The free ship is weak (yea, it can rob merchants, but its junk generally) and the free captain rarely has good stats.

I really, really like the buccaneer. The 90% off LOM is a big deal when they start costing over a million a pop, the 5 free fame points lets you jump right into the action with some captains, etc.
So far as I can tell pirating is essentially worthless. You lose far more than you gain. This goes for both the pirate character, and the pirating activity. Acting as a privateer with a Letter of Marque allows you to initiate battles without losing fame, and separately the Buccaneer character is far, FAR better in terms of bonuses. It's actually ridiculous.
