Ugh! I hate autosave checkpoint systems. So it's a definite no buy from me then.
I don't mind not being able to save mid combat, but I can not stand not being able to save outside.
Whenever I play games with a definite story and end point I do prefer to make save files on or before key moments in game like before a final mission for example. That way I can just reload that save file whenever I want to relive that key moment. Also being able to save BEFORE combat allows me to reload if and whenever things are going south and there is no way for me to recover.
Save scumming, reloading combat when you made a single mistake action is something I'm also not a particular fan off as well. But I am a fan of saving combat right before that sweet and justly deserved last kill, just like creating a save file in XCOM 2 WotC right before I killed the last Avatar :D
Also I don't mind an autosave feature on rogue lites\likes but for games that are not, I'd prefer being able to manually create my own save files.
Thanks. We will think about this feature.
I think with E:S I argued to just at least give us one overwriting Quick Save slot. This at least sort of protects the player against fatal game crashes (which E:S had many of), forces the player to think wisely about when to quicksave, and doesn't allow SCUMM Saving.
Although yeah I'm in the camp where I think it's better to follow Firaxis' XCOM example -- let the players decide before starting a campaign if they want Iron Man (no saving during a mission), limited saving (maybe a couple savegame slots), or full SCUMM Saving ability (save wherever and how often as you want). Cause the players' coughing up the money, so let them decide what they're comfortable with, and make them commit to that when they start a campaign.
I guess devs when I've played games like E:S with no in-map saving, they just argue that they don't want players to SCUMM save or constantly reload. But to me often in TBS games part of the fun is you try one strategy for a situation; it messes up, you reload and try something else. It's not much fun to try something that fails, and then have to replay however long (5-10, 30 minutes) to get back to the tough point.
The levels arent that long lmao.
Im up to the first boss and no level has been more than 15-20 minutes.
How many people play a game less than 20 minutes.
Mostly casuals who play mobile games like Candy Crush.
