Really Choppy FPS at x4 Zoom Level?
Am I missing something? I was a bit taken aback by how slow the game was running for me when I selected x4. When using x1 I get none of that, but the game looks a tad too blurry for me. I don't recall having any of these issues in AOE2:DE

Is there a tweak I'm missing?

I have same fps problem...

and x4 is disabled...

Basically the same problem in my case. On closer zoom it's a bit better, but still not as good as AoE2DE. Also, when I hit a tech-tree window and close it, I got (sometimes) fps boost - which I don't understand

yes, and it's worse if you change the game speed to normal the game feels like it is playing at 5fps.

Happens to me as well. I remember build 28529 had good stability, was able to play fully zoomed out with great performance. I also play AOE II:DE without performance issues. So I don't know what happened in the middle of the way now that I came back to this game.

Unfortunately, July patch did not fix the issue.

It's how the game works. Your hardware won't make it run faster.
It runs at 60fps at the default zoom or closer.. frame rate caps at 30fps when zoomed out.

it's not running at 30fps..it's running at 5ps.

That's not how the game works. I've played the original..still own it.

Hell no. It's not how the game works, it's how badly the developers managed to optimize the old engine for the high res assets of the remaster. AoE 2 DE had this same issue when it was in beta and when the game initially launched but they managed to fix it in a patch. The engine work on that however was done by a different company so it's something they have yet to sort out for the first game.

Running the game on 1x zoom fixes the issue at the cost of image quality, what you see there is how the game should run on the higher zoom settings too.

It's NOT how the game works. As said above, I used to have about 60 FPS even when zoomed out in an older build.

Well it is how the game works now. It's not a slow down, it is coded in to lock the frame rate to 30fps. For whatever reason, they couldn't have it running at 60fps when zoomed out so they did this as a workaround. I'm running on a PC that could handled zoomed out without any slowdown just fine.. it's in the game.. it's how they made it. The frame rate locks.

How dumb are you? This is like when MK11 had fatalities and fatal blows locked at 30fps. It's not a slow down. The developer forced it this way. Of course it can be fixed, but for whatever reason they chose to let it like this.

Use your brain and test it yourself. Launch the game with FPS count on.. then check how the game runs at 60fps on default zoom. Then zoom out all the way and the game will drop to 30fps... then move the camera to a area of the map that is unexplored and all black and it still locked at 30fps. If it was a performance issue, you would get 60fps on the black area where there is nothing on screen.
Dude at least 3 other people have already told you that nope, that's not how the game works, there is no magical 30 fps lock happening, for everyone other than you the game just stutters with the fps dropping to the 50s while scrolling and whatnot.

That should be a sign to you that yep, you managed to somehow force double buffered vsync on the game and that drops the fps to 30 whenever the game chugs. It's on you to figure out why that is, THIS is how the game "works":

I don't think they care. Typical troll.
