Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the best in the whole series, still has a large fanbase/playerbase to this day.
partly from extension, its relation to the quake 3 engine and the incredible development philosophy of the game. making the multiplayer free pretty early on. it has a lot going for it beyond the game itself.
20 years still going strong I would say it easily makes it the best and most popular.
