There's a few bugs left but nothing game breaking and they're still working on it.
If you're looking for a singleplayer league I wouldn't recommend it, the AI doesn't provide any challenge at all, has random skills assigned to its players so it doesn't get anything useful.
If you're looking for some casual multiplayer Bloodbowl with BB 2020 rules on the ladder it is fine. It has a decent number of teams but it's not complete yet. We get 1 team per season and a season last for 3 months. You can either buy the "season pass" for 10$ and get access to the new team right away alongside a "track" that you level up by playing games in any mode and get some cosmetics. Or you can level up the track for free and get no cosmetic but you will get the team for free once you reach the last level. it takes around 50 games to complete the track and you have 3 months to do it.
If you come from tabletop, know that the ladder is "eternal" during a season so you can play a team for a 100 games which can warp the game a bit. The ladder is reset at the end of the season, they are now doing play offs for the top of the ladder. When a new season begin you have to start a new team and cannot use your experienced ones. (which is nice tbh)
Private leagues aren't really a thing yet, you can form some but we are still lacking admin tools which they have been working on for some time now. So if that's your prefered way to play I would wait.
If you like customizing your team, it is very limited unless you buy cosmetics on the shop. Sadly they completely overpriced said shop and outside of streamers that get free in game money I barely saw anyone buying anything in my hundreds of hours. We're talking 7,5 $ for a helmet, 10$ for 3 cheerleaders models and so on. But cosmetics have no impact on the gameplay so whatever their loss.
Thank you. I really enjoy customising my team and focus more on single player so I'll probably give this a pass for now. Hopefully they stop treating this like a live service game and release an 'ultimate' edition with cosmetics and such bundled in.
How active is the multiplayer scene? I
Do not buy anything else than the bloodpass.
Basically what the current stat of the game is , forgot everything that isn't pvp and ladder , there is still bug left and right but they fixe that overtime.
That game will be more playable eventually.
Most people who felt it was bad before will still think its bad now - there have certainly been some improvements, but not enough to warrant a reversal in most people's position on the game, and there is a tendency to break new things each time they look to fix something.
My suggestion is this: if you really want the game then go ahead and get it... its not that expensive. If you're patient, then just wait - it'll go on steeper sale than 40% given a bit of time.
Right now they're mucking around with concession penalties that are going to be pretty harsh for new players to deal with. We'll need to see how that effects the already diminished playerbase by the end of season 3.. if it improves things then hooray... if not then... well... booo?
League administration tools are still not available to everyone, so private leagues aren't yet a big thing... and that's where most new players are typically directed to learn the game in less "toxic" play environment.
So... your call.
Quick game is 45-60 minutes
I was thinking of picking it up again too after refunding at launch but it sounds as bad now as ever.
Probably best just to write this game off as unsalvageable.
It doesn't deserve anything else tbh after playing it on launch day.
Worst game launch I have ever played in 30+ years of gaming.
Still a lot quicker then a Tabletop game. When I say quick game I mean you can find an opponent pretty fast in the Ladder. Also if you think 45-60 min is too long for a Blood Bowl game you might as well wait they release a version of 7s. Assuming they will.
BB3 wastes a lot of the players time and a lot of improvements can be made.
