Pitch Transitions

So I'm playing this game and all of a sudden there's tentacles waving around, and I'm being told they're trying to eat players.

Nothing happens.

So I figure that the transitions are cosmetic.

In my next game, however, I get two players out with heat stroke? That's unexpected. When my team plays a match that grows plants everywhere, players going for it have two rolls, except for some of them who have to roll before they reach the end of their movement allowance.

So, this is a long way of getting around to asking: What do the transitions do? Which field does what?
