Is BB3 online only?
Can I solo play offline?

Hello,

You can play solo offline, the campaign is accessible and the progress of the team is recorded.

Competition creation (even with AIs) will not be accessible.

The multiplayer will logically not be accessible as well.

Sounds like it's online only, saves being written serverside is what I read on the other post.

It's all cool tho as long as we buy enough cosmetics for our virtual balls, they'll leave the servers on.

I can barely afford to buy cosmetics for my real balls!!!
Good question. I hope there is an option for offline at least. I'd love to be able to play on the go on my Steam Deck.

The issue of Solo and Multiplayer has been addressed in countless discussions on this forum.

To be fair that doesn't state if solo play is possible offline.

Ideally solo play is possible offline but those teams can not be used in any multiplayer setting ever (again) for obvious reasons.

But that creates exploitative potential which I am not sure how solve right now.

Yeah, that's a fair assessment. My eyes glazed over when I saw the whole solo/multiplayer thing. I think you have it right.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Great news!
Thanks for verifying.
Looking forward to the 21st.

Thanks for clarifying, CMCS!

Really glad we'll still have that option, even if it is understandably only available for certain game modes.

Why can't we get a proper open world SP campaign like BB1 ? the community has been asking for it for ages yet all we seem to get are an uninspiring heavily scripted "campaign" or boring league modes .

Most of the fun is starting with a basic team in an unheard of part of the world and advancing to the big leagues .

The short answer: development time.

The general view, and stated developer aim, is for BB3 to have a multiplayer focus. So that's where most of the time and work is going to go. Single-player options get less likely the more they would detract from that.

Meanwhile, the devs doubtlessly also have a lot of market research and BB1 & BB2 usage stats that influence these decisions.

I suspect that, despite the players like us saying we only plan to play solo, the overall stats probably support the idea that players who engage with multiplayer will stick around longer (and thus likely spend more under the new system). So that reinforces them as the core priority.

I'm still sticking with solo and hoping we eventually get a few broader options. But until and unless the devs get some hard stats showing there's enough demand for it (/money in it), I won't hold my breath on anything as grand as a whole new custom game mode.

....

This looks like a self-licking ice cone to me.

SP & AI are lackluster -> more people stick around MP -> let's focus more on MP.

If the game had decent AI (and with that I mean an AI that at least doesn't make the most embarrassing bonehead moves like in BB2), I am sure the devs could expand their player base tremendously. Players like me with busy jobs and decent spendable income should be their focus. I don't have time for MP and will likely not buy a thing after the initial purchase if it's all MP focused.

Well, yes.

Between the relatively poor state of single-player in the previous game and people's concerns about the AI quality in the beta, I'm personally inclined to agree we're probably up against a strong feedback loop there.

But games studios and their financiers aren't often big on gambling on vague hypotheticals and conjecture, no matter how reasonable they sound. The big decisions are likely all being made by people following hard data (no matter how biased it is).

I guess. But do we even know for sure what the hard data says? In this thread: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1016950/discussions/0/3767857092602113091/?ctp=3#c37622293♥♥♥♥0632068 (scroll to post #32), someone pointed out that only 25% of all players on Steam unlocked the MP achievement, for example.

Something tells me the truth potentially is simpler (and uglier) - management is basing their decisions not on hard facts but either on personal preferences, or on the lack of resources/talent to pull off a decent single player experience.
