Use points to get training from your compagnons.

You'll need to talk with your companions in the base by asking for training

If I recall fine it's possible only in evening, after mission.
Training is important in Chernobylit. Don't miss it.

I started again, I realised I was doing skill points, and especially building things all wrong. Much better now I am on Day 10 with one extra companion, lots of building, skills and especially lock picks of which I had none before. That's the trouble with old age!
