It would be nice if there were another way to do it. Maybe if you had a special mission at the binoculars when it happens to infiltrate the prison to get them out. But that's also weird because how would you know they're at the NAR Prison?
I feel like this mechanic could use some refinement. It makes sense that they might occasionally be captured, especially when sending them to scout mission critical spots. But this is such a weird and unsatisfying way to resolve it.
Thanks. I'll just hop in my chamber then. I wonder, with the way the tunnel works at its core, if I even have to change a decision to fix it. Might be worth experimenting with.
EDIT: Just used the chamber and did not change anything. He appeared back at base when I woke up. I think this is a reliable way to fix it. By the nature of the tunnel having to reset reality, restoring things, it overcomes whatever reality used to have the companion captured. I guess. It's a neat trick. I suspected this because before when I first entered the tunnel at day 10 I had changed nothing in it but suddenly companions had their attitudes adjusted for events that happened before they joined me (this happened upon entering the tunnel). Guess it's just a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey... stuff.
