Hi devs,
i saw your post from a few weeks ago and from May 8th.

I'm arachnophobic. Thats not just "Play it, it's just a game" - it's more. I tried it in so many games so many times - i can't get past this problem.

So much, that i can't play Skyrim witout "insectsbegone"-Mod.

So much, that i try to avoid as much games with spiders as possible - not all games, but the majority.

Most of the games i don't avoid have coop - so a friend can help me.


And now is your game. I'm a big fan of Stalker and Chernobylite is inspired by stalker - i like it.

But when the spiders will be released, i'm out. They are way to hard for me.


Is it possible to place a trigger in the menu to disable them / replace them?
Just like Statisfactory and Grounded had.

Please consider this - i want to play your game =(((

If it isn't possible - i wish you great success with this game anyway. It has the potential.

I'm arachnophobic too! I wouldn't be able to design a spider myself. That's why Duster is not a spider! It has 6 legs and is more a combination of a bug and earthworm. What you see around him is mucus, not a cobweb.

You should be afraid of him, because Chernobylite is a horror game. But not so much.

I'm afraid, that these facts doesn't help me. It looks just terrible for me (thats a proof of your good work anyway).

We will see but... i don't know. I don't think that i can go over this.

Jeez, if you didn't know about the spiders in Skyrim then that first Drauger dungeon would have killed you when that big beasty drops from the ceiling. I admit I get jump scared from them, but not to the degree others have the phobia.

Have you tried the exposure therapies? I hear it works. So many great games you must miss otherwise, Dark Souls series comes to mind...

Yeah, its kind of annoying how every other shooter has got to have spiders in it.

I saw the animation when the "Spiders" (with six legs, nvm) appear. Ok, maybe this is not final, but to be honest: It won't be less creepy for me when it's final.

So... Without a trigger, i'm out. Sorry.

As mentioned above, there are many good therapies to overcome phobias, OP may have tried some, but they never replied. You have to want to face your fears first I suppose, we all have them.

I totally agree with you all.
I have to face it, but i tried it so many times.

Doom 3, for example. I love this game, but the spiders were a big problem for years.
Release was in 2004. Since then i fought against my fears.
I have only made it in the last 5-6 years and have been able to handle it since then - but not in every situation.

Another Game is Metro Last Light and maybe Exodus. I didn't own Exodus because of the spiders. Wasn't able to play Last Light because of the spiders. They're horrible for me. But i love the Metro series, just can't get past the spiders.

I will continue to try to face my fears in the future. Unfortunately, I only assume that I will not get much further.

I don't give up, but i didn't have any hope.

Question for the devs, if an answer is possible:
Will they just come out of the wall and attack me from there or will they crawl towards me?

If they crawl, i give up. If they just hang there and attack me with poison or something else, i CAN try it....

and I thought I had arachnophobia... I am utterly creeped out and disgusted by spiders which results in a kind of fear of them but damn not being able to play a game with them? That's harsh

you have my sympathy, I can tell you already you should stay away from Penumbra games, there is a really creepy moment with spiders, one of the most arachnophobia inducing I had,

and also stay clear from ever playing Dark Messiah of Might & Magic... there is a whole segement where you are inside lair of giant spiders and it was creepy AF (many times I had like jumped in my seat and squealed a bit...)

I know about Dark Messiah and Penumbra. Bought Penumbra years ago to play it with a friend - which nevver happened so it will be forever unplayed.

And Dark Messiah... don't let's talk about this. I know from the spiders, saw a few pictures years ago - enough for me.
