i'm pretty sure the production costs on this one were pretty high
not just the engine work, the assets, the "level-design", all the VO, the production quality on the OST and all the script work. that's probably one reason why it's in the upper price-range.
but this also means its gotta make atleast some of it's costs back.
and the IP is not mass-market anymore, wasn't back then either, but back then it's kinda revolutionary tech and world building made it famous.
funny enough games that make the most bang per buck are the very same games "experts" keep complaining about and the communities burn, while they still make millions over millions.
IPs like Outcast need more word to mouth. and frankly the release window was probably the worst one possible. during a major steam sale, just ahead of one of the biggest releases in recent years: Dragon's Dogma 2; while having littile to no advertisement.
its sadly gonna be a rough ride.
just look at the X-series, the market for a space-sim like this is empty and deserted, the production quality of X4 is probably as high as you can imagine, but it's still more of a niche game, and this despite the community actualy beeing quite positive about it and advertising it.
i realy hope they make enough to work on an Outcast 3, A New Beginning might be (and i'm probably through with an extensive first run) one of the most pleasant games i've played in recent years; this was/is almost like a fun vacation.
But without Cutter? Nah man; Cutter is the perfect 80s, 90s hero. He ain't an as*hole, but no saint either; he doesn't get all the "new kids" stuff, but he just rolls with it....smiles and says:"ofcourse". he's generaly more optimistic and easy going. he might not be the hero or maincharacter we deserve, but sure is the mc we need.
Hell, I'll take DLC.

Hope GOG and console sales can save it.
The Saboteur from 2009 currently has similar numbers.
Also Dragon's Dogma 2 and Horizon Forbidden West releasing very soon.
Thanks.
Still seems a little shallow for a $60 price tag. I'll revisit when it's on sale.
