Any tips for cleaning weapons with oil and brush?
I was wondering if what I am doing is wrong because sometime cleaning weapons with oil and brush seems not to work at all for me.

When I use ramrod and paper usually repairing weapons is almost immediate, above all I see black dust coming off the weapon continuously until the ramrod come out the weapon or no black dust is coming off the weapon anymore because the weapon is fully repaired.

With oil and brush is a completely different story.
I spray the oil across the whole side of the weapon and I start brushing, piece by piece every section of the weapon, sometime slowly and sometime faster. At the beginning of the cleaning I see some dust coming off every now and then, but after few seconds it stops and sometimes I see a little bit of black dust coming off every 10-20 seconds or so. I turn the weapon and do the same on the other side, same slow result. It takes me around 5 minutes to clean a weapon with oil and brush and around 5 seconds with ramrod and paper.

Now, I am not complaining about the time for repairing, I don't mind that if that needs to be, I was just wondering because I just don't see black dust coming off while cleaning, sometime for a very long time and that makes me feel I am not repairing the right part of the weapon.

Is that way as intended? Is it normal that I don't see black dust for around 10-20 seconds, sometime even more, right after applied oil and brushing afterwards? Do I need to clean some sections more than others? Is there a way for me to see what is left to clean? Does the brushing speed matter? Should all sides (left, right, below and on top) of the weapons be cleaned alike?

The trailer really made it seem like it was instantaneous, but I'm just sitting here scrubbing like a dumbass for several minutes to even get the bar to go up one pip.

Is it like, version or headset related, I wonder?

Best hint I can give you now is just tap-fire some wd-40 onto the most obviously damaged spots and scrub some bits off until it no longer works, and then moving onto the next area.

I've had mixed results where on some weapons (like handguns) sweeping side to side does nothing, and I have to furiously scrub the same spot back and forth endlessly to even get something to happen. On the plus side, if the oil dries up and nothing happens, that should mean that area is repaired.

In general, I just go for the sides first, then top, then bottom, and pray I hit the blues by then. That includes any surface, from stocks to grips to wells to dips... and whatever else rhymes.

I just hold the button down and sweep the spray down one side of the gun then scrub until nothing's coming off or it turns blue. If it's still yellow I turn the gun around on the vice and do it again. If your fast and have a steady hand you don't waste much WD40

This only works in the bench vice.
I do both sides in a coat of oil, up one and down the other, fairly slow, the whole thing can take a second or two - you want a good coat. Now, with two brushes. Start from opposite ends if you can - and go slow, sometimes the mechanic is a little iffy but if you see a shiny spot try rubbing it - when it stops for what you think is getting too long, apply another coat, or flip the weapon for spots you couldn't see and you should be close to done.

Some weapons do seem easier than others.

The game remembers what spots on gun you already cleaned. Only firsh brushing counts, black dust and specific sound will help you. So you have to be consistent.
Problem is - some parts on guns and mags are inaccessible to brush due to form of an object. For example big ribbed parts of VAL mags cannot be brushed, so I have to work only with thin smooth edges. Not wery convenient, I agree.

This can be done without the vice, you just need two steady hands instead of one.
Or just set it on the ground or a table.

I think the game needs some separate colliders or rust texture maps (not sure exactly how the current system is implemented), so that you only need to brush the easily accessible locations on the gun. Current system seems to require you to clean the trigger, trigger guard, inside of the barrel, and sometimes I think even inaccessible polygons of the weapon model.

You can also lock the bolt open on some guns and pistols. Makes for a faster cleaning with more surface area. It's not perfect.

I keep reading this on some posts, but it does absolutely nothing on my end.
