How the heck do I rack the slide?

I've just picked up the game, and just tried the firing range.

I picked up the pistol, put a magazine in it, tried to rack the slide to chamber a round and that put the pistol into my left hand.

I held down B to get more info and indeed, it said to grab the slide with an empty hand to rack it. That's exactly what I'm trying to do...

I'm using Index controllers, if that makes a difference.

Try and grip higher. If you grip to low, what you describe happens.

No go.

I just tried, and the pistol leaps into my left hand when it's faaar away from the gun.

Wait, what direction is "higher"? Further up the stock? Let me try again further away from the muzzle...

...yeah, same thing. WTF? The pistol transfers to my other hand when it's faaaaar away from the gun. Honestly, what's the point in that?

I mean, I've just finish HL: Alyx and was kind of expecting the same pistol operation,

Hold your off hand directly above your hand that's holding the gun, near the back. Push the button assigned to grip and move your hand like you would if you were doing this irl. Should work.

There should be a tutorial in game as well.

There are dots that appear when you put your free hand near the gun. Grab with the trigger and not grip when the dot for the slide appears and pull back to rack your first bullet.
And as Scriptus said, its in the tutorial.
When you try out new guns, you find where the slide is this way as well, unless you already know where the slide normally is.

While we're at it, I couldn't seem to get into the tutorial? On the menu it's got a different icon to the other items, and also seems to be greyed out. So I went to the firing range instead.

I feel your pain, I am exactly in the same boat :(
Other tutorials I've done do notice if I have successfully accomplished the task or not. If not, it'll show up again. But this one it's just gone :(

If anyone's wondering about my original complaint, it ended up being trigger, not grip.

As for getting into the tutorial, it starts the first time you play the game.

Yes, trigger of off hand. Ibis seen at give more options once you get use to it.

Damn voice to text, It gives more options once you get used to it. Like switching scope power settings on NATO scopes.

We replied to your review, but haven't' seen any updates from you since.

1. What's your headset and controllers?

2. To rack the slide, you need to grab the top part of the gun or any other weapon where it is required. Press the button that means "grab" on your controller, then pull the top part of the gun back, and you will see it move and hear a click.

The more details, the better.

I use index controllers as well and I have to use the trigger to rack the slide. The tutorial states it explicitly. Not sure if the same is true for the Beta but I think so

I don't mind using the trigger BTW,I think it works fine
