What CPU do you have, what type of RAM/how much RAM do you have, do you have a solid state drive to install the game onto, etc?
Depending on the above, it will run on mediumish with FSR on, but expect some areas to absolutely tank. The first map you enter (Pervomay Route) is the least demanding of all the maps, the second map Bolotky Village will really show you whether or not you can run it reliably.
If you are very sensitive to framerate drops/hitching, you will probably have a not great time with a 1080. Most UE4 VR games have some weird stuttering issues that come up from time to time dealing with the GPU load, this game is no exception.
For reference: I myself experienced the above issues with a 1080Ti, 32 GB of 3200Mhz DDR4, and an i5 8600k, my CPU was getting hammered in a lot of areas. The game is pretty demanding.
I upgraded my entire PC to 4070Ti, i7-13700k, 32 GB 6000Mhz DDR5. While it does run significantly better, I still receive the random GPU frametime drops that are likely caused by that weird UE4 VR issue.
Right now I have an i7-8700k and 64GB DDR4 3600Mhz cl14 RAM besides the GTX1080. Planning on getting an RTX4070 or maybe the Ti if prices come down a little or there is a sale around Christmas. See no reason to change my RAM as it's about as good as it gets for DDR4 and most applications/games are still barely taking advantage of DDR5 yet, but I might upgrade to a different CPU around Christmas as well depending on how much extra cash I have on hand, but doing so would require a new motherboard as well.
2. I mean you can just buy it, if it runs like garbage and you don't see yourself upgrading any time soon you can just auto-refund if you play for 2 hours or less. If you get stutters though just be aware its probably a CPU issue and not a GPU issue USUALLY. Also textures you can turn up if you have enough VRAM because that doesn't really affect your FPS at all.
3. Valve index is cool, its also very old make sure you check out somewhat more recent VR headsets depending on the amount of money you wanna spend on it.
im on a 3080 and have a mix of medium-high settings, using AMD upscaling UltraQ (RIP DLSS) and MSAA.
Gotta say tho that I am on a Resolution of ~2400x2830 pixels, I cannot stand a blurry image, that gets me to 90FPS all the way with no reprojection. With the index you can cap to 60fps thanks to the 120HZ display, which should help alot, i can only cap to 45 fps, which sucks.
And yes, a good CPU will probably help a lot, but these got alot cheaper these days
Honestly the graphics are worse, but the game does look better in a way. Plus no cable. Yay.
With a lower resolution headset like the Valve Index, 1080 is completely fine for this game.
