Game lagging and stuttering on good pc
here are my specs:
GPU: radeon rx 6950 xt
CPU: ryzen 7 5800x
RAM: 32gb ddr4 3600 mhz
Samsung 980 1tb
The game seems to stutter a lot when looking around and the frames drop significantly when in a firefight. I Think I should be able to run the game on max settings no issue. I've tried turning the textures to low and still have the same issue. Any ideas on what I should do to make the game run better? When in a firefight the game can frequently drop under 30 frames. I really like the game, played it for four hours today with the poor performance, Sometimes it can cause me to lose a fight cause the game will stutter.

I'm also using a Rift S for my vr headset

into the radius on a rift S is hell. I feel you with the stuttering, brother. if you are on windows 10 or 11 try turning off Hags (hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling). in windows go to system settings - display - graphics- default graphics settings and turn that garbage off. should help with other vr games too. make sure you restart your system after changing it though.
the rift S was a mistake. not a bad vr entry point if you have no experience, but awful overall. i wish i saved up and got something better, but i've been stuck with it for years since money is tight. i hope my suggestion helps, good luck in the zone stalker.

Yeah the rift s is pretty bad, just wish there was some other pcvr headset that was not super expensive. I will try turning off that setting and playing tomorrow to see if there are any changes. Anyways thanks for giving me something to try.

I guess at this point in time AMD gpu's do not support hags or thats what I read on the internet when I couldn't find the setting. Guess I'll have to look for another way to fix the stuttering.

Damn I have a rift S and the same struggles, that makes me sad. It's probably also my pc tho.

Already have it on and it still stutters with poor fps.

Sorry to hear that mate, but for me it did the trick ( 3070 TI here) I tried TAU, and DSSL methodes and they were FPS BLACKHOLES lol

forgot to mention this, but playing the game through oculus helps fps tremendously in my case. when you hit play and it asks if you want to use steamvr or oculus, chose the latter. a much smoother experience. i used the amd fsr method in the beginning, but i found that it washed out the colors (rich considering the game is already mostly grey and the rift s kills it even more). after launching with oculus i could even use TAU at 200%. though it still slogs at bolotky and the main base, and randomly through the game. honestly, i've played the game since 1.0 and it has always had doggy doo doo performance. it is a lot better and prettier since 2.0 performance wise, but still. another thing i noticed, the shadow settings hit the hardest. if you have a flashlight on the performance drops a good 15 frames because of the janky dynamic light/ shadow system. i'm on an intel 10th gen cpu nvidia 3080ti both of which have been meticulously overclocked. i can run even the newest games at max settings 4k 60 fps. this game is just poorly optimized. mess with the settings, mess with your computer's/room's ventilation, and make sure as many unnecessary background tasks as possible are eliminated. i left Microsoft word open while playing once and was getting a good 25fps less. killing word fixed the problem.
the zone as well as performance in the zone is mysterious and unpredictable, stalker.

One thing you should try is turning down your monitors display resolution, as not only does the game have to render for each eye on your headset it renders a 3rd display on your monitor.

If you have some kind of control panel in AMD change your texture filtering to performance, and Power management to maximum performance.

and in windows change your Power to Power mode.

All of these helped me to get 72fps (could probably go higher but haven't config'd it)

Will come back to this in a week when I can play on my vr headset again. Thanks for trying to help.

I will have to try that, I usually just launch stuff through steam vr because the performance on other games is fine.
