Something about pistols
If I load one round in the chamber, eject magazine and then shoot, the pistol slide stop happens even through it shouldn't happen when there's no magazine inserted.

I would have ignored it if this game was an arcade shooter but clearly it isn't, so I think it's worth to point out.

Don't alot of pistols have hold open mechanisms built in these days?

Isn't slide stop in guns operated by the follower in the magazine thus it can't be operated without the magazine inserted ?
I'm not a gun expert, I could be wrong

According to search, all slide / bolt stop mechanisms in guns require magazine's follower reaching the top by firing all rounds to raise the stopper.

Without the magazine there's noting raising that upon firing, thus slide stop can't happen.

Well, if I go outside I don't get attacked by shadow monsters as well, so I guess it's not a glaring problem as in nowhere it's a gun sim, but a survival horror based on exploration.

I think it can add up to the survival horror.

If you accidentally fired gun without magazine in extreme situation (happened to me several times), you are slightly more screwed as you need to insert magazine and rack the pistol to reload instead of just pressing B.

But it is true that i should play other game instead if I want to dig gun details so much.

Besides H3VR, ITR probably has the best and most detailed/in depth VR gun mechanics

only in a very rare minority of pistols,

10 years military here qualified on A LOT of firearms

tldr it comes down to model some will hold open without a magazine some wont it depends on what the model was used for and what kind of reloading drills or safety requirements were taken into account when designing it or a governments/organisations requests when bidding the contract

also there's no such thing as a "slide stop" its called a hold open or a bolt stop law enforcement will sometimes call it open on empty

Thanks for explanation. I also learned that while pistols like glock 17 and beretta m9 don't hold open without magazine, there are some pistols that can't hold open at all or hold without magazine.

TBH I don't know any handguns that hold open without a magazine, and while I'm sure there's some really old or super cheap models that lack it altogether, it's not going to happen with anything in this game. You can engage the slide stop manually in all handguns by just pushing up on the slide release but you wouldn't be doing that while shooting.

Some RIFLES lack a bolt stop, and some lock back even when empty (AK is notorious for lacking one, and most guns with a fixed magazine (SKSs, M1s) lock back when the bolt is run)

What? That's like, ALL pistols. Unless you mean a magazine SAFETY, which maybe you thought he meant when he said 'operated'? But the slide stop is drive by the mag follower, otherwise how would it know when the gun is empty?

I'd say they're "fair". Nobody's going to match H3VR but H3VR has to make a lot of compromises on control scheme to make that happen.

I found that Steyr M1912 is one of the few pistols that holds open despite not having magazine at all.

Sure but that has a fixed magazine, so there's still a follower. Like I said, other self-loading guns like it have the same thing like the SKS and the M1 Garand.

I know the SKS in-game has a magazine but that's not a "real" SKS, the ones with magazines were made for the commercial market long after the SKS was retired (thus it uses AK magazines, when the SKS existed before the AK). I don't even think any Russian manufacturer made a detachable magazine SKS, I think they were all Chinese Norinco models.
