New player choosing difficulty.
I've started playing and did about 2 hours on the easiest mode. Was that a mistake? Is the game better when it's more tense, and more bullets are needed to kill something?
I always love games more when it takes a couple of shots to kill something because that's realistic. But since these are monsters, is upping the difficulty maybe more fun?

I had to scale the difficulty down and now my Mosin with AP rounds pretty much 1 shots everything. This has reduced the tension and made the game almost (but not fully) a walk in the park. I had to do this or else I would never get to see the whole game as it was just far too difficult for me.
I would definitely recommend trying on at least standard difficulty ( I lasted until about the 4th main mission) and then scale down if you just can't continue. I do feel like I'm cheating the game but I want to see the ending.

If you're 2 hours into your first playthrough I'm assuming you haven't gotten to the Factory yet. There's a decent difficulty spike at that point when you start encountering armored enemies which take quite a few more shots to bring down which you mentioned is important.

The big thing with playing on the easy difficulty is it's pretty much impossible to die unless you're trying to.
On standard difficulty you'll die if you're reckless or make a big mistake.
On realistic you'll die for small mistakes and sometimes just bad luck.

My first playthrough was on realistic and there were some areas where I died 10+ times my first time trying to clear them. I had a good time with it but it's really down to how much challenge you like and your frustration tolerance.

The nice thing about this game though is you can change any difficulty setting at any time so you can tweak things to get them just right.

Its my first playthrough but I have watched a bunch of youtube videos on it before I decided to play the game so I kinda knew exactly what to expect for the first few hours of gameplay and where to find some good weapons really early on
