Shotgun doesnt headshot?
Havent used shotguns much but when I did iirc both with slugs and the non-slug ammo, shooting the head (even in short distances where surely the spread would all hit the head), it was not a gurranteed one shot and possibly took 3. On the other end, body shots would consistently 1 or 2 shot enemies.

Possible it is my ♥♥♥♥ aim tho

the head of a mimic is not a weak spot

It is in a mimic, but not the fragments

Slug ammo is much more effective if you're trying to headshot enemies anyway

doesn`t matter unless they have armor, then you gotta shoot the legs or head or somewhere else

Enemies have weakspot that inflict damage x4.
For most it is the head, for Fragments and Phantom it is the center of their chest.

Might be an aiming issue, also note that the neck is not part of the head for critical hit purpose.

so how does armour work? shooting anywhere deals same damage? when you kill an armoured black walking dude and their heart is exposed but still armoured, does it still need AP?

also wait no isnt armour that you have x% chance of doing damage? in which case you do want to aim for the head/heart

basically there are a few unarmored spots you can see on enemys (sometimes fake because why not make invisible armor on already tough enemies) but most of the time you can just use ap ammo because it has a 90 chance to pen while being a little more expensive

all ammo has a chance (or not) to penetrate armour, just AP and higher calibre ammo has more chance. I've killed armoured mimics with 9x18mm FMJ ammo but it usually takes a full clip before I get lucky lol

if you look at the info screen for each ammo type you'll see the penetration chance there

and i had the opposite where i shot a armored fragment with 4 7.62x25 AP rounds at point blank and the armor deflected them all, so it`s also a matter of luck

Yep, that's what the penetration bar represents the chance of penetration. So you can get lucky with crappy ammo or unlucky with high tier ammo

I've heard multiple explanations from different people on why and how AP ammo should work. From my almost 200 hours of play throughs in literally every single version of this game, AP has never worked for me. I have always been better off just using FMJ, which doesn't make sense but idk what to tell y'all.

what caliber where you using?

Being armored is a state, it's either on or off.
There are no gaps in it despite what the models would lead you to believe.

If an enemy is armored, every bullets that hits needs to do an armor penetration check in order to deal damage, period.

I tested for this by editing the buckshot so it would deal infinite damage but have no armor penetration. And the result was it couldn't kill any armored enemy, even when shooting at visible gaps in the armor.

As to how AP work, well, it has a higher armor penetration chance, so it passes the check more often (90 to 100% of the time depeding on caliber)
