How do I disable the capacitive touch sensor? :(
I've got hyperhidrosis - Very Sweaty Hands. This means my controllers almost always have sweat on them, and the sweat trips the capacitive sensor on the Index conrollers. So, they think I'm always gripping, even when I'm not.

Is there any way to disable it, and have it use the force sensor only? I went to look at the controller mapping, but it looks like it's already set to force sensor (??!??!!).

I'm still having to effectively wipe my gun off on my shirt to get it to let go from my hand.

Seriously. I've just sat there for half an hour, clenching and unclenching my fist, trying every conceivable combination in the settings of grip, force sensor, grip button, button, force, gripforce, and all I have to show for it is a sore hand. It still grips, but sometimes just doesn't un-grip at all.

What's going on? It seems like regardless of what force settings I specify, it always uses capacitive? Is it just ignoring my settings?

Why isn't this working?

Dude, you NEED to fix this! The game is unplayable! I can't draw my gun because it still thinks I'm gripping something! I can't put my gun away! I can't let go of my backpack!

Here we are again.

I took to using moisture-wicking bicycle gloves, but they only go so far before they soak through.

Still, I managed to move on from my Mosin rifle to an AK-74 I found. Except it's nearly unusable, because if I try to grab the front of the rifle, as my hand passes near the magazine it leaps into my hand and then yeets off into the distance, at the slightest touch. Same story with my pistol. Twice I've dropped it without realising because my hand happened to brush it in the holster.

Anyway, I actually went so far as to disconnect the capacitive sensor in one of the controllers and I discovered the most amazing thing!

YOU'RE NOT USING THE FORCE SENSOR AT ALL.

Disabling the touch sensor meant I could not grip whatsoever. It doesn't matter what setting I use, what binding I pick, grip apparently only works with capacitive.

Come on, man! Please fix your game!

Hey, just wanted to say: thank you! :D

I was able to get things working more or less how I have it above: using grip as a button, force activated only, mapping to right and left grip.

I did notice that there's also a thing to bind to called grip_force (which is what I tried above). It doesn't seem to do anything. But fortunately the grip command works great.

Thank you for fixing this! Much appreciated!

We are glad that this is no longer a problem for you! Be careful in The Radius!

I'm sorry, friend. I have the same problem with palmar hyperhidrosis. For me, the best solution is not to turn off the sensor, but to use a special antiperspirant with aluminum chlorohydrate.

I must say, I'm curious about what grip_force is for. It's there in addition to grip, but doesn't seem to do anything...

Oh! Hey there! :D

I've tried it. I don't really like it. It just comes off on everything, and also if my hands really get sweaty they just sting for a bit and then carry on sweating like normal (I think this is my sweat pores shoving the aluminium out so they can get on with the business of sweating).

At any rate, the bicycle gloves + force only for grip seems to work pretty well. I've noticed the game seems to still use capacitive for the finger movements, so I can still make a pointer finger gesture to poke the computer screens, but it's also not impairing my ability to pick things up. Or making me accidentally pick things up when I don't want to.

Special antiperspirants should only be used at night. During the day, they do not need to be smeared on hands :) After 1 month of constant use, the sweat glands degrade a little and sweating on the palms decreases. But yes, I agree, these antiperspirants are an unpleasant thing :(
Personally, I use silicone cases for controllers :)

How do you not get it all over your bedding and/or significant other, though?
Esgal May 26, 2022 @ 1:19am
The antiperspirant dries quickly. You have to wait 5 minutes. I smear my palms and feet right in bed, everything dries quickly and leaves no marks on the bed linen or my wife :) Unfortunately, the antiperspirant dries the skin a lot overnight, in the morning you have to moisten it a little with cream. But it's a good way to not leave wet footprints everywhere :)

Wearing gloves solves this issue fairly well.

4th post down, my dude.

Unfortunately, playing with gloves is inconvenient. They make your hands sweat even more.
