Knives and other items cannot be repaired using oil, and you must pay for repairs.
Paid repairs are both good and bad. I don't think you recover the cost of the repair when you sell an item (but it's been a while since I've actually checked). That's the bad.
The good is that the cost of repair is way cheaper than buying that item new. You can use this to your advantage... I "repair" food cans for cheaper rations, for example.
I agree that some of the descriptions in the store are a bit vague regarding what attachments go where, but many are straight forward... you can't use a NATO attachment of a Russian gun, for example. Pistol attachments are a bit of an exception, and the only pistol that doesn't take any attachments is the TT. And the PM only accepts a silencer. Pistol attachments are otherwise bilingual (russion or englis weapons)
