(SPOILERS) Is this actually a 3rd ending?

I've beat the game months ago, shot both Katya, reloaded and shot the Radius Being, and today I got to the end of the game again, but instead of shooting either, I capped myself without hesitation. Katya cried out "what have you done?", I laughed my ass off, and the game instantly loaded to the start of a new game. I decided to try and reload to do the other two endings but the game blocked loading because it's now in ironman mode, thus overwriting all of my progress for my save slot. Even pressing load in the main menu shows that my save was changed to 0 hours on iron man mode.

I'm here to ask if that was supposed to happen.

I'm not too bothered by the ironman overwrite since I was thinking of playing on that difficulty in the truly intended way, but instantly losing a save file with 9 hours of progress without consent will really upset other people.

Yes, it's supposed to start a new game in ironman mode. What shouldn't have happened is overwriting your save. It was supposed to make a new save profile. However, I am not sure what it's supposed to do if you already have all of your save profiles used.

Well, the other three profile slots were empty, so I have no idea.

If it's supposed to overwrite, then I would look into the bug of it not doing that. For me, I had a save from before the save profile update. When the new update came, I still had my game and it was automatically added to profile 1. When I beat the game, ironman mode was activated and it took over my profile 2. If it's not supposed to do that, then maybe look into why it did. Although, in my opinion, the way it worked for me should be the correct way.
