It is the best old fps?
I played old DOOM, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake a few days ago. DOOM was a little bit boring, Duke was better but Blood is amazing. The graphics, the maps, but mostly the soundtrack and the atmosphere. It's so damn cool. The main character is acting like a real person and his voice is good. The game is so much more fun. What do you think?

Btw: Playing with Blood reminds me of Hellsing anime.

Blood is probably not only the best old-school shooter but my best shooter over all. I absolutely adore it.

Undying is pretty damn close

I still prefer Duke 3D more and probably Doom 2 as well, but it's right up there. But I do think if you are just getting in to these classic fps and didn't play them around the time when they came out (and it sounds like that's what you are doing), Blood level design is defenitly the most varied and least obtuse, and as such easiest to enjoy today.

Doom.. boring? :o

Doom 2 , Duke 3d, and Quake 1/2 for me will always be the most nostalgic as I remember my jaw dropping reaction to playing each one of them for the first time. I played Blood as well on its release way back when but for some reason it didn't hit me as hard in the feels as the other games. Not saying its bad by any stretch just didn't excite me like some of the other classic games.

All the old games are still good, Wolf3D, Quake 2, Duke Nukem 3D, etc., while also being a great experience in VR.

Just need to wait on the VR mod for this :)

quake II is best in my opinion.
blood have amazing weapon handling mechanics for a build engine game, it has awesome level design as well but character movement is really buggy due to technical limitations of build engine.

quake on the other hand, has one of the best movement mechanics in FPS game from that era. weapon handling is great but also bunny hopping and map design is done so well and allows you to play whole thing like super-mario, without using weapon that much. also multiplayer is solid.

I feel like the mid 90's were the golden era of first person shooters. I know that Half-Life is hailed as the best by many, but I'd argue that HL1 also kind of ruined a lot. After its success shooters became more and more linear and dumbed down, and I think a lot of it has to do with how the game was different from everything else out back then. It paved a new road for everything to come.

These build engine games and the games from ID Software were challenging and unforgiving, in a good way. They had their own charm that can only be recreated in their engines. And very impressive with all their 2.5D trickery too. It's good to finally be able to relive many of them on modern PC's without having to deal with the chores of the olden days (DOS etc).

90s may actually have the diamond era of games. Hell games today don't output as much fun. So to answer your question, blood is at the top of my list of favorite games with Last of us. Two different games and shouldn't be compared but there both phenomenal.

Thank you, that's the exact argument I make. I can't really think of anything about Half Life that doesn't bug me and make me strongly dislike it. I think it was the false prophet, to borrow an Ultima subtitle. Half Life 2 in particular, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hated that. I feel the genre's only getting back on the right path recently with Dusk, Amid Evil and Iron Maiden. But I actually think Wrath could be like the real step forward.

On topic, Blood is VERY good. I actually think Quake 2 might be my favourite but Blood is high up there.

I never played Blood before but playing it today with all the shiny graphics of other games, Blood still is a lot of fun, it's up there with all the best FPS's for sure.
Depends. I love Blood's unique atmosphere and sound design.
Also Blood's level design is definitely the best among all classic FPS games. Tbh all classic Build engine games have great level design, Redneck Rampage or Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior or Blood.

Doom and Quake had good gameplay, but levels were 'gamey' at best. They were essentially as 'real places' as super mario 1-1 world. They simply aren't fun to explore or go through, they are mazes that are just 'there' so you had places where to shoot things.

While not influential, I think blood is better than what people claim as the best shooter like Duke3D, Quake, Doom or Half-Life in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I love those games but blood is just too good, I had most fun out of all of the other shooters.

Blood is awesome, but Doom and Quake 1 literally have endless content in the form of so many wads/maps/level packs etc that you will never run out of Doom/Quake content, check out Arcane Dimensions for Quake 1, level pack whose maps have similar quality to Blood's if not better

I used to like Doom but now I find it a bit boring as well. Even the Brutal mods do nothing for me anymore. Nothing beats the 'Build Engine trinity' of Duke3D, Blood and Shadow Warrior. Quake is pretty close tho
