Honestly, the dev for some reason just add new content and not fixing problems or bugs from released content except regarding that new content.
Base file of this game (data.cpk) never been touch for a while, and that data.cpk have several things required to be fixed, because all new content will still use the same broken base file.
Things urgently must be solved include but not limited to :
agent)
They said Microsoft can't fix that because it's not Windows, DirectX or anything
Microsoft responsible bugs, but it's the game files and dll that must be fixed.
companions can't be hybrid (ex doing both def and heal at same time) which makes
every combat boring and static.
There are new so called 'XT weapons' that gives higher stat but the grinding required to obtain one still not friendly.
which lead to limited combat setup option.
than the added file because of double encryption system because the developers
afraid that someone mod the game base file.
All of those above leads to low number of people still playing this game.
Just avoid this game at all cost.
Please note also that this game not worked well on PC with AMD processors and Radeon GPU, it even caused blue screen on intel i7 8th and 9th generation because of poor system optimization, even you can get blue screen with 2 RTX 3080 even if you can play Metro Exodus and CP 2077 without any crashes
Any neutral (non SAO fan) will agree about the state of this game that is beyond repair.
This game very much needed another year in the oven. Cause Aquria's code base and engine have always been a mess.
well, let's just say Aquria is not capable yet to create good game.
This game still need improve Quality of life more for grinding. It too much time sink into end game. Some option for XT gear make no sense since still need massive amount acc.
I bought it on a whim for $10 used at GameStop. It's probably much more "enjoyable" on console than PC. I didn't have any glitches or slow loading times or anything like that but I honestly didn't play it for more than 5 or 6 hours before I got tired of Kirito and the poor storytelling and the way the game does it.
I say "enjoyable" because besides the PC's lack of optimization that game is just bad for many many other reasons.
#1 to avoid - Kirito
Does this even need to be said? I'm sure it's the major reason why Fatal Bullet is the better game. He's basically a side character you can avoid.
#2 - Kirito's Ego
#3 Kirito's Sexist/Chauvinist personality
I love fan service but Kirito is just a egotistic douchebag. Even more so in this game. Only an hour in he's already ... well Kirito.
he's just an unrealistically mature and selfless Jesus character. He does no wrong, he must right all wrongs, and he's the vessel which those in need pray to in their times of need. Just about every situation ends with "oh boy here comes Kirito to save the day again" or "oh boy here comes Kirito to be a good person again".
Of course the very second Kirito comes in contact with a female he assumes that they need his protection and that they are in love with him. You'd think the asshat would have learned from Asuna that women with sword skills are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves but nope he's got to be a chauvinistic pig and make comments suggesting because she's a woman that she can't take care of herself and that he needs to borderline stalk them to make sure they're safe. After all the entire world depends on him alone right?
"Ohhh Kirito! I've only know you for a day but here! Have this precious sword!"
and somehow Kirito is the ONLY person able to cut down some ancient tree that conveniently blocks the path to the capital city. Which of course you just automatically arrive at with one or two lines of text.
#4 The game can't decide how it wants to present the story. It has the usual dialog where it shows the characters on screen having a conversation then at times it switches to more vague 'picture boxes' 3rd person narration that is really simplified and just casually skips years worth of time in one sentence. Like 'Kirito joined the guards' and 'Kirito trained to pass some test' which was apparently super difficult and limited to only a select few people. But he's Kirito so of course he passes and makes it to the #1 top spot . Not only that but of course his trainer is also a woman. Despite being HIS trainer, he still thinks she needs his protection.
You'll also get sudden and often random conversations that add nothing to the story or the game but to get in the way. Most of the time it's just Kirito being a jerk.
tl;dr don't play it if you hate SAO games that are centered around Kirito being Kirito ... which is like all of them but Fatal Bullet (which also has it's flaws like Sinon saying rape is okay)
Yes. It's very bad actually. 95% of problems from day one still is present demanding a very biffier rig to brute force it.
To make this game run good and actually not get in the way these are necessary:
- engine overhall. It needs to be optimized. (to run this game at 4k at 60 fps you need a 2080ti or a 3070. And this game isn't even beautifull... really bad art direction)
- Graphic glitches needs to be fixed as LOD uses different models with even different colors for the same object. Pop in is very bad in this game too.
- The way real time cutscenes works need to be redone from scratch as anything will trigger loading screens. Even the ones on the same area.
I think it's easier to just scrap this version and start over again.
The state of this game only tells me that I'll never buy anything made by Aquria ever again.
Well, I think those trying hard to defend by telling this game is good just because there is their favorite characters and never really consider the aspect of the game which is why I said it's very subjective.
Because if you review this game objectively and based on review standard this game is really bad.
A. Technical Aspect
The poor performance again caused by double data encryption inside each cpk which force CPU to work very hard decrypting and decompress the cpk and the file container inside as the usable file is inside the container behind it.
I never found any game has such difficult compression., even Death Stranding that has encrypted file it's only make the file container bigger but don't have poor load performance.
This double compression is also the main reason of poor load performance and it's eats more disk space to store the temporary uncompressed files which will need to be deleted once the exe files is closed.
The way they reduce the graphic by skip the load of particles and shadow makes the game runs faster as it's lower cpu load but makes the game graphic looks worse as there is no more small glowing particles and reflection of meshes.
The graphical glitch causing by poorly written ini files which is the configuration for Havok engine.
There were file missing in the base game file if you try to run the game with a debugger.
As there were lots of lines said xxxx.fx is missing, couldn't find the hair xx meshes.
The cut scene video file is not rendered with familiar encoder causing huge load as the CPU & GPU need to encode the video while CPU has to decompress the asset at the same time.

B. Gameplay Aspect
Aside from technical aspect the gameplay aspect of this game is also very poor as I wrote a lot in the past.
The expectation when this game trailer launched was very good especially the one that play SAO-ARS because even SAO-ARS has better skill animation than this game.
It's weird that mobile game has better gameplay then PC game that have access to heavy cpu/gpu load.
This game was bring the concept of new AI which is expected to be smart due to the introduced record system which as the main reason I bought this game, but patch 1.09 makes the records system broken and the AI characters won't do sword skill and support skill as set in their records anymore if it's don't match the character role which makes hybrid character impossible as AI are locked static to their assign role.
The way of their make Raid Bosses also never been used in any games ever created as their increase the offset of HP, def, evd based on its level which why high acc is required as the higher the enemy level their evd will also be sky high which is require high acc to counter it, once you hit the acc required the battle is no different from the normal raid just the Boss will dear more damage and you will deal lower damage because of higher Atk and Def.
And if you play other game you will notice that higher difficulty enemy will have something different like it will try to attack you from different angle or will defend when needed and counter your attack but this game Bosses doesn't have that and just attack you with same attack over and over again which make the battle is very boring.
It might be interesting when you are still unlocking skill but at the end game phases when all skill unlocked and you just do extreme/supreme raid all day it's become boring because what you do is the same all the time.
Skill balance also very poor as there is no equal damage output to each weapon, I would accept if the healer deal less damage but two attacker with different weapon has big different dmg output which makes certain weapon is not favorable.
Game that intended as service should not have this and the patch usually released to fix the weapon and skill balance by increase or reducing it's effect but this game never has skill and weapon balance adjustment included with the patch.

C. Story Aspect - including universe
On story aspect, the story is not interesting or make you curious about the ending as there is no mystery to solve and the story is very straight forward and the dlc stories has no meaning at all as it's has no impact to the event in the underworld except it was divine beast haven't defeated by admin before.
Therefore it's not proc with the fact that Admin that reign in the underworld and rules everything there for long time how come there will be more and more divine beast left behind that just roaming the world after Admin defeated it's makes no sense no ?
Also the sudden appearance from characters from real world in the underworld makes no sense, in the anime it's makes sense because there is someone from real world go to threaten the underworld while in this game there's no such threat.
The appearance of characters from SAO universe is just fan service which targeted in to veteran SAO games player to play this game
Each dlc free or paid always ended to slay the divine beast that appear form no where is too redundant and makes people not interested to play.
I wrote this not because I hate SAO franchise or what, for me this game it's not bring any improvement from it's predecessor Hollow Fragment and Realization except better graphic which is way too far behind if you compare to other triple A games.
For me if you haven't bought Hollow Fragment or Hollow Realization, you should bought that and just scrap this game as it's just waste your time and you will get nothing but repetitive story that recycled over and over again.
The CPU load is real. I did tests with this game using a ryzen 2700 and a 5600x. The 2700 is a very good processor (but not that much for games...) and can't keep this game above 60 fps regardless resolution. The 5600x can really brute force this game above 100 fps. But this is not practical as it's a very new processor and less than 0,5% have anything this level of performance.
The story coming short isn't a real surprise for me. Even SAO anime is trash on fire the majority of the time. The first seasson first 12 eps is actually awesome! Real awesome! Than it's really bad until it gets to underworld that is really good again. Until second seasson that makes everything really bad.
These games had the most potential of all as it's paralell to anime so they actually could tell some really great story off of them. But that's what we got. ㄟ( ▔, ▔ )ㄏ
Btw, Hollow Realization have the very same problems this game have only that one isn't that demanding so it's easier to brute force. I really had some hope devs would learn from past mistakes but instead these are all amplified.
At the other side, DIMPS seems to had make a good game out of fatal bullet. Now this game got a good sale price so I don't know if I get it or not... Probably will wait longer as I won't play it right now.
Firstly of course it's is as 5600x is faster decrypting and decompressing files than 2700.
Again all this high CPU requirement because all the games file is encrypted and compressed twice.
Therefore to reduce cpu load they skip the game to load small particle, LOD and shadow meshes also reflection than makes the game looks bad but will load faster on last gen cpu.
Me myself just replace core i7 3770 to core i9 12900k and experience the same thing regarding performance.
I am agree the 12 first episodes were great to watch and the second part is totally terrible as it's not makes sense especially the Kirito awaken that feels so sudden and there should be scene that was cut also the ending with Tiese and Ronnie become jet pilot is not makes sense at all.
If you want to emphasis AI learning and thinking, Detroit Become Human has done a lot better.
Regarding Hollow Realization, it's using same encryption method but only once not twice.
Also it used Phyre engine that known to be not very much performance friendly.
At least I found HR game play is much better, it don't use record system but the AI is understand what we want with that thumb system which not worked in Sao AL no matter how much we react after their action, they will keep do useless sacred art instead connecting to our sword attack to initiate chain burst, especially after patch 1.09 which really destroy SAO-AL for good as it's makes record not used by AI controlled characters.
In Hollow Realization you can set the AI to heal often and don't roaming aimlessly by give thumb up when they done correct thing that's way is better as you feel AI presence than Al when you feel much you are playing alone.
Other example, in Scarlet Nexus other game by Bandai, you can set the AI to be takes it cautiously or give it all, cautiously will make them avoid too risky action while give it all will makes them took risky action to lands damage, this make Scarlet Nexus much more enjoyable to play you feel the presence of the AI character around you.
They heal at critical rate even reviving you when you died at more than 50% chance if they are not under pressure by enemy.
I admitted, Katana was op in Hollow Realization but not to the point that other weapon can't be use because of the huge stat gap.
If you looking for realistic shooting game I don't recommend Fatal Bullet because it's don't give real gun combat physic, it's too arcade as you can't feel any differences of weapon handling in that game.
The enemy also is pretty much dumb like AL, in Hollow Fragment for example the enemy will target the weakest char (lowest HP or wounded than attack character with full HP) this not happen in FB or SAO-AL the enemy simply has no AI in it and just charging aimlessly.
If you want anime game I would recommend Scarlet Nexus or Trails of Heroes series instead as it's has depth story and every combat feels different as you can use any way you want to beat the enemy so you don't get boring.
Like for example you can combine physical attack with Psychokinesis, Electrokinesis or pyrokinesis.
This game also uses phyre engine. But I don't think this is the problem as Trails used it until End of Saga. I think they're using something else for Reverie now. At least Kuro is if Reverie uses Phyre too.
I already bought Scarlet Nexus. It's on my near future games to play. As Xenoblade 3 is coming out july 29, I'm playing Xenoblade X that is the last one of Xeno games that is missing (Yeah, I'm playing this sinse Xenogears... and bought a NS just for this one game). I also didn't played Torna, but that'll be quickier to finish. So Scarlet Nexus will be the next in line after Torna. Then "I'm really felling it" Xenoblade 3 get released probably just in time. (hehe)
In case of fatal bullet I'm more interested if the story is good. This is the main reason I play games.
Yes, but Trails don't use encryption, that's why people can mod it
Even add content from the EVO version (for Sora no Kiseki) which add Japanese language voice.
The use of encryption impacting the load performance as old cpu require longer time do decrypt the files.
I don't play Xenoblade so I can't say much but the way I rate the game is always based on three aspect I mentioned above :
1. Technical (performance, fps, crashes)
2. Gameplay including mechanic and skill balance
3. Story line
For Nexus, I played it my self, at first I don't have any interest on playing it but after watch the gameplay the game is interesting so I get it and play that my self and found it very enjoyable with depth story as well.
I don't know the end of Fatal Bullet since I stopped playing it because the combat is very boring and not challenging also it's not have proper gun fight mechanic and physics.
I prefer Battlefield series or Call of Duty series especially modern warfare that has great story line for gun fight games.
