If you want to follow update progression, do Ancient Apostle free DLC first which you can find it at base.
Leveling will be insanely quick in "Blooming oFMN" DLC story if you play at least on Hard difficulty. And ofc, the equipment grinding still as tiring as usual. At least drops in DLC area give more consistent stats depending on difficulty setting.
Ancient Apostle dlc's were free content updates which are basically the equivalent of friendship quests from the previous games. They give the featured character of the dlc new unique gear. You can either play through it or skip it. I don't really think it mattered much. If you decide to play through it, you can start them by heading into the campsite with the long table at Centoria.
Blooming of Forget me not is the first paid DLC. The fights become incredibly difficult midway through.
So first you should continue your save and work on leveling too at least 60. You can speed it up by raising the difficulty and farming levels in the raid dungeons and mutated beasts. That way you can also score better gear.
Don't focus to much on the gear farming though. What you'll really want to be doing is mutated beast battles. You can go there from the raid dungeon monument. The mutated beasts give you colored shards which allow you to raise your +5 gear to higher levels, all the way up to +20. This way you'll be able to raise your stats, which will be needed for the DLC.
I'd say anywhere after level 65 and +15 gear is a good time to play the DLC on normal difficulty. When you're ready save your game then return to the main menu and select Blooming of forget me not. It will load you into the game with your character data and continue the story from where the base game ended.
PS. They added a "True ending" into the base game which is where the DLC picks up from. So, if you haven't seen it, you should at least look it up on YouTube to see it.
My level reach about 60 by the time I finished Ancient Apostle DLC on Hard. Then at first map of Blooming DLC, my level pretty much jump to lv95-ish from those story enemies. Currently I stopped after 3rd DLC map, grinding for new gear and upgrades.
When I play I have to fight against weak monsters to get my touch back, it has been years since I last played.
