Never played a SAO game before. Should I start with this one?
Or should I start from the first game (which is it?) to understand the story?

So long as you've been keeping up with the anime and watched episode 1 of Alicization, you'll understand the story. The other games aren't really necessary to know whats going on but they will introduce all the characters if you don't care for the show.

Just buy Tales of Berseria or YS VIII. You will have spare cash and less bugs. Story is way better and the combat has some similarities.
Mixed reviews don't lie.

So I just search for YS VIII on Steam and I like it. But it's the 8th in the series so do I have to play all previous titles?

Go play Hollow Realization or even Re: Hollow Fragment. You can buy both combined for less than half the price of this (probably even Lost Song as well). wait until all the content is implemented in the future before buying this, as all the Shackles will be released and will be a lot more balanced (Hopefully)

Agree with this, all 3 of those games are full of content that will take up your time. And it will introduce you to gameverse characters that will appear in this game at a later time.

Actually, the game version of Sword Art Online are Sequental, meaning the story is keep going and having a sequel, but the story didnt related to the previous one.

so its ok if u play this game instead of playing the other previous games

At least it served its purpose to tell a story. Dual language. Even skits are voiced instead of scrolling thru blocks of visual novel that is partially voiced. Read the word partially.

How frustrating is it to buy a game that crashes whenever you do something like enable steam overlay, alt tab... until today still no proper solution. I am not an SAO fan but how lazy is it to even voice partially in English for this price tag and micro transactions.

I feel embarassed telling people on my friends list not to message me when I play this. And its been that way since day 1.

YS 8 is pretty standalone, you go explore a weird island.

and as a bonus they hired one of the better known modders that make jrpgs and stuff run better on PC and he optimized their port, its very good now.

I never played SAO game before, I did try Fatal Bullet but then ended refunded it since I don't like it, but then I kinda curious about this series, and no I've never watched any of the series too, but oddly I kinda like this, easily spent 30+ hours into the gameplay and merged into the storyline, there is some flaw but most of the time you'll enjoy it.

As someone who have never watched the series nor play the game before, I am definitely recommend this, I mean why the hate tho, the negative reviews are kinda expecting Final Fantasy VII Remake level, I mean come on.. this game is awesome.

The world is big enough to explore, the quests are classic JRPG, the storyline is also kinda cool, the music is not bad, the customization is okay, the battle is kinda clunky at first but by the time you are into the game, it developed nicely fast and tales-series alike, also it's on SALE, so like wtf is wrong with those toxic people lol, I say get it and play it! :mhwgood:

The game has a lot of potential but there are many open issues still.

This game has its own contained story, there is no real need to play the others to understand it, sure youll understand a few things better but story wise there is no need

People dont seem to understand that you can like a game even if it has flaws in general and put their expectations unreasonably high, this game has its flaws sure but people tend to overlook the good parts and just focus on the negatives
