Question regarding Hardslate

So despite Hardslate apparently being annoying to get overall; I found that I needed it to complete a strengthening quest, so I left that quest on the side for awhile and did some other side quests, and ended up receiving the two Hardslate items I needed to strengthen my what was iron sword at the time.

The issue is, after using the items to strengthen my iron sword to +1, the quest to strengthen an item is still active? anyone know what's up with this?

After u upgraded ur weapon u recived the material and order to upgrade also ur armor thats all.
Its the Tutorial quest for Upgrading stuff then u first arrive the town

That's the thing though, I upgraded my weapon but never got any new material, and after talking with the guy who gave me the quest, it's as if I never did anything towards completing it?

Did he specify which weapon had to be upgraded when you accepted the quest? I had no problem with the Night-Sky Blade.

Looking back I can't quite remember; from what I faintly recall, no. He mainly just spoke about how to upgrade weapons and Kirito was like "Jesus this is gonna take awhile" at the end.

I guess it's worth noting that during the time in which I did the quest, I was still early / mid chapter 1; meaning I didn't have the Night-Sky Blade yet. I wouldn't think that's what's needed though, since it's impossible to get the Night-Sky Blade prior to playing through the part in the chapter in which it's given to you.
