How to Upgrade/Get New Fishing Rod

How the ♥♥♥♥? Ive finished chapter 1 and have yet to see a way to either upgrade or get a better rod. Please halp. *Cries*

I got mine by fishing up to lvl 12, then doing the inktopus quest in willra, the little watermill town.

There are certain quests that tell you to catch a certain fish. They reward you a new rod if you complete all of thier request. View tutorial for more info at the save pole
